I really like this song and I think it ranks among Al's better style parodies. That being said, I feel the same way about Craigslist and CNR. All four songs Al released this summer were PHENOMENAL in my opinion. His four best consecutive song releases in my opinion.
Al really did a great job at sounding like Queen, as someone who is familiar with about two discs worth of their hits. I'll leave it to Amerah and others to dissect exactly which parts sound most like which Queen songs, but I think he really nailed the vibe. It would be hard for someone to hear this and not immediately realize he was supposed to sound like Queen. I think he did a great job with Freddie's voice, and Jim totally hit home on guitar as well. Musically, this is a truly excellent piece of work.
Lyrically - eh. I mean there were some pretty funny parts (Obviously the $1.99 gag comes to mind right away), but I have to agree with the "not that funny" contingency. I think this is the least funny of the five tracks on the Internet Leaks, made up for by the stellar music behind it.
The video was also really high quality. I think this was the second best of the four videos, inferior only to Craigslist. I am glad I watched the entire Collabo-Jam first as I got to see some of the "hits" from SuperNews so I got all the characters that were in the video. And I'm glad Barack Obama made a little cameo too!
Overall, I'd rank it 4th out of the 4 songs that came out this summer, but I still loved the track and I think it will grow on me a lot. I consider this the type of Al song that I won't really listen to because of its comedy, but because it's just a catchy song.
Great work on all four originals, Al! I'm still a fan!

Fascinating to read everyones reactions!
Wow we are all so different I guess
It's fun, but I have to say I don't really like it that well. It's way down at the bottom of Internet leaks for me, and shows potential be fairly high on my list of least favourite Al songs (sorry Al) although the second time I heard it I liked it better, so it's probably a grower and I'll get to like it better, but my initial reaction is fairly negative I'm afraid.
I like some Queen songs, but I'm really not a fan. That's my main problem with it though, nothing Al has done or not done.
My ratings
1 CNR
2 Craigslist
3 WYL
4 Skipper Dan
5 Ringtone
STOP PRESS: Ok this song IS growing on me.. It took a while for me to get into his rap music parodies, but now I love them, and I think this will be the same

Oh yeah... and I think its awesome that Al tweeted Marc's tattoo and then a multi armed animated Al shows up in the video! I also like the premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater, which I visited .. sigh.. less than a month ago
and yeah, the music is very well done, certainly

BTW, GuyWhoIsAnonymous - Al did a Survivor parody. Believe me that's as good as it's gonna get for you.

I CAN'T BLOODY BELIEVE I never recognized this as a Queen style parody based on that early spoiler video of the instrumental excerpt. Especially with that guitar part. I BLOODY LOVE QUEEN!!!
Actually, when the song started my first instinct was that it sounded A LOT like Ben Folds again. Especially that high note on "very long aGO..." Even without Ben on piano, that opening part sounds even more like Ben (particularly, the original version of "Give Judy My Notice" from Ben's "Speed Graphic" EP) than WDTAHTM did. But then, I thought Skipper Dan sounded like Fountains of Wayne, so please don't trust my narrow knowledge of music any more than I do.
Yeah, the lyrics are a bit weak, but Al's musicianship really does keep getting better all the time. That seems to be where he prefers to focus his energy as he gets on in years, and I see nothing wrong with that. Not every song he does has to be "jokey," and it's sure as hell better than ripping off The Kinks on every other original like he did in the 80s. And anyway, "CNR" had enough jokes in it for two or three songs, at least (not to harp on it, but if you don't know who Reilly was, get the Game Show Network and WATCH SOME BLOODY MATCH GAME and then maybe you'll understand why the song is so awesome.) Also, this is the first new original so far which really feels too complicated to play live.
I can't wait until Scotti Bros. releases "The Queen Album" with Another One Rides the Bus, Bohemian Polka and Ringtone. Then due to a "clerical error" they fill the remaining twenty minutes with excerpts from "Pleasures of the Dance: A Collection of Norwegian Carpenter Songs."

Can we compile a list of all the celebs making an appearance in the video please?
You guys are bound to know loads that I wont recognise
For starters theres
Barack Obama
Sean Connery
Britney Spears
---------------------------
and FredHuggins
LMAO.. I was hoping for some Fish Slapping dances myself
Ringtone is growing on me, but CNR is still top of the tree for me (and of course CNR was never on what we called "Blankety Blank" in the UK & that proves how awesome CNR is)
