I was reading the educational part of my local newspaper the other day. You know, the funnies and entertainment section. Anyway, I found a quote from none other than Tress MacNeille:

Longevity in a show business career can be measured by the amount of time spent PREPARING for it.

I think Tress must have the same work ethic as our "Ricky."

You can read the whole article here:

I was just doing some WAY research at Elvis' page, and found out an interesting, and puzzling, factoid:

Al was in Playboy???

I have to assume it was an article, but still - I am surprised!

Edited to correct "factiod." Where's my liquid paper? Where's my liquid paper?

Well, didn't "Playgirl" already decree Al to be the "Sexiest Man Alive" in "The Compleat Al?"

Or was it "Ebony"....

Al was in Playboy???

Yep, Al's picture was in there... twice! (that I know of...)

The first one was in 1985, an article about Al and his VCR setup. There's a picture of Al on the tour bus showing it off.

The second one was in 1999, a pictorial...Al in his pajamas....No, it wasn't that type of pictorial. Shots from Hugh Hefner's birthday party. Al's posing with some typical Playboy bunny looking person (in "pajamas" also).

I also know of one other mention. During an interview of Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame, they talk about Al's BTM special.

Huh? What was worth having an picture of a VCR setup? I bet it didn't do the 12:00 blink.

Looking at Dr. D's Funny 25 for 2002:

http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris/FAQ/drd02.1229.html

Al is in the Funny 25 FOUR!! times!

His first appearance is ARTB, coming in at #25. That song is, what? 22 years old?

#23: The Night Santa Went Crazy (I assume, though it doesn't say, that it is the Extra Gory Version.)

#21: Yoda, which was also recorded in late 1980.

#10: The Saga Begins.

Not bad for a guy who hasn't released any new recordings in 1,277 days! (Not that we're counting, Al.)

And for the regulars at #dementia... Lukeski got #1!!

I don't know what it is, but someone in the Fine Arts/Architecture program at the University of Pennsylvania made this thing and titled it yankovic.jpg...

Why, it's obviously a design for the Yankovic Performing Arts Center. Frank Gehry, eat your heart out! Just eat it!

(high-cultural note: Disney Hall is scheduled to open officially on Al's birthday)

I was over at www.stephenjay.com

Steve has been busy this year! He started his fourth solo album in Feb. 2002 and as we know started work on the new WAY album in June.

I tried to listen to some of his stuff, but my stupid real player wouldn't let me...

I'll let you make that decision yourself. I posted the text to the article and the picture to my website. If you can't find it, private message me and I'll let you know the URL.
