I'm late to the party on this, and I don't have any great name suggestions, though I am partial to anything with "fest" in it, because then you can say you're off a festing. Or festering. Or something.

Anyway, I will plan to come out, but it will depend on the OTHER fest I participate in in July (I volunteer there annually) but I think B-Fest is the weekend before the dates you're planning, Vikki. I am not entirely sure what I will be doing work wise this summer either, but I'll plan to work around plastic horse and Weird Al related events.

If I do come, I would be more than happy to put whatever talents I have to work.

Jackie

ETA-- Oh yeah, I LOVE the idea of kareoke and/or lip synching. And a costume contest. My geeky little self is all a-twitter with the idea.

I think you should do preregistrations soon to get most people here who want to come before doing a more expensive floor price. I know its a whole lot easier to start when you know you have a good amount of money coming it. And never worry about it being too early, before it gets to the "right" time (or even late!), is the perfect time. :)

I did a little research for hotels and this is what I've seen. If we're aiming for Costa Mesa (Since the OC Fair is more in Costa Mesa than the actual Orange County) then the Costa Mesa Hilton might be the best bet for multiple reasons.

-Free shuttle from airport to hotel service (That being the OC airport and there's a shuttle every half hour)

-Many places to have the event in, so many rooms for this type of thing that they're on multiple levels

-They have Audio/Video equipment as well in the event that we don't have some sort of projection thing or something.

-Right by the huge mall for you shoppers (Which is also good for a quick run in case we need anything ;) )

-It looks like a nice hotel and I know that the people working there do their best to help out if you need anything.

-Spa salon so Vikki can take a deep breath and relax :P

So say what you like about the Hilton family, and I'll most likely agree, but this hotel looks really good and will probably be our best bet. Each room has two beds so people can save money by sharing if they go alone and inside they have necessities like internet if you're a business person or trying to check WOWAY late at night to review what just happened.

Sorry if this sounds like some huge advertisement, but this information makes all the difference when choosing a place like this with confidence and not worrying if something goes wrong or if we don't have something. (Trust me, choosing a place for a Bat Mitzvah party....stressful!) :D

That'd be "Wild World", but, yeah...

I still think a Gong Show would be fun, even if I won't be there. I had fun doing stand-up at AlCon III, and some other talented folks participated as well. *waves to Kevin and Cid*.

Count Kevin and I in. How about some AL Karaoke. Some karaoke companies have put his music out...and Kevin and I have some Al Karaoke songs that we made ourselves. Kev and I also have a sound system We'll have to work out the details but I'm sure you could use it at no cost. He knows more about that than I do so he's really the man to talk to. I'm just the muscle that sets everything up :)

I know it's Vikki organizing and not me, but I know that hotel meeting costs are often defrayed by banquet purchases... are folks here interested in such a thing? Although a request for a banquet with a menu organized around foods mentioned in Weird Al songs would probably make the Hilton chef's head explode.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Let me just say that jelly bean and pickle sandwiches were put on the menu at Honest John's, the hotel restaurant at the Elk Grove Holiday Inn, but no one ordered one, simply because they were asking $20 for one! Just a little steep. I would've eaten a TWS if they'd had one, though.

But they did have the ingredients just in case someone did order one.
