I'm late for work, so I ain't reading 87 replies now, but it's on Al's YouTube for people like me who are too cheap to shell out 99 cents --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRVi0paZlfI

Initial thoughts: It's okay, not laugh out loud funny, but not shut it off terrible. It definitely benefits to watch T.I.'s video first. I like that it's not political, or specific to what happened over the last few weeks. It's less about the economy and more about being a cheapskate, so the song will still be relevant in a few years. More thoughts later...

Wow, this is a very slow thread compared to the waiting for the song one. I guess everyone finally went to sleep, and is still sleeping.

I ripped the song from YouTube so I could listen to it on my way to work (hey, I couldn't buy it even if I wanted) and after listening to it over and over for 45 minutes straight (what? me obsessed?) I have to admit I loooove the song now. It has some insanely funny lines!

I do have some observations, though. The song is too topical. As a non-American, even though I'm unhealthily obsessed with American pop culture and lifestyle, I found that I still don't get a bunch of references. "Government cheese"? What the hell is that?

Another thing I was talking about earlier, the promotion. I'm sorry, but the cover art of the single looks like something a 10-year-old made after he found his first Photoshop tutorial on the internet. I would have loved anything with Al's face in it. Of course, I'm biased because I love Al.

But did I mention how much I love the song? Because I do. It is insanely funny, *and* Al just sings beautifully. I love his voice. But, again, biased.

Dave's right - watching T.I.'s video first was a good move for those of us not familiar with the original song. My daughter knows it well and was extremely excited when she heard the parody this morning, and although she probably didn't get a few of the references (Cold Duck and ramen noodles are not part of her life at 14) she thought it was hysterical. Based on her reaction, I predict it will be a hit with the younger fans.

I love it, and a few lines did make me laugh out loud. It's all about the Washingtons!

Damn it. I now see Stephen beat me to the lyrics. Jerk!

Yeah the only 2 complaints I have is how it ends kind of suddenly on that gov cheese line. Didn't feel that.

Also the short part in the middle where he rhymes want with want then that with that when he's talking about Wal-Mart. I guess that kind of makes fun of the original becuase that guy also was rhyming the same words with each other but that part just sounds blech.

Good song. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Much, much better than the original, which I bought right before I bought Al's, so I could hear it first. Just sad that it's another hip hop parody.

Still haven't gotten to buy it because itunes and I are arguing with each other. It's claiming the account I made doesn't exist. Grrrrr.

I added the lyrics transcribed by Stephen on LyricWiki.

I'm not sure how accurate they are, but at least there's a song page now.

Overall I like it, although it's not my absolute favorite. Will have to listen to it many more times of course! The biggest problem I have is that it is based on a terrible song. I really wish he would start parodying at least moderately good songs again, or at the very least no more hip-hop/rap!
