Bummer, waited outside near the buses for an hour, only got waves from the band
Great concert though. High point, at the end of Albuquerque he decided to start the song over, and went about 20 seconds into the second one before he finally wrapped it up. I took a few pics, no point in uploading, they are horrible, and people there closer than me had much better cameras.
Man! This was the worst front seat ever! I really never had any reason to complain before, but sitting in the front row, with no speakers in the front, everything was echoing and sounded out of synch. I could barely hear the lyrics. Good thing I already knew what Al was singing.
I also think attendance would have been better at Kings Island. This place wasn't even close to being full.
But that Albuquerque restart was funny.
Oh, and the moon was blood red when we left. Eerie! Must have been the heat.
"Okay, now just the sweaty people!" Al, during Yoda.
It was an odd location to have a show! We went to hang with the guys at the hotel. Jim wanted a ride to the venue so off we go. Well, I've never been there. He doesn't know where it is except it's in Cincinnati. I hit the GPS and off we go! Except it's leading us into Kentucky.... Why would we have to go back into Kentucky from Cincy... when the show is in Cincy.... After about 1/2 hour of confusion and the panic I am going through because I have Al's guitar player and we are basically lost, I decided to trust the GPS. Turns out, I should have done that from the beginning. Yup, 5 miles into Kentucky and then it backtracks us to a bridge that brings us to the venue. It was funny... after we got there.
We hung for a while and then it was time for dinner. Off we go on golf carts. Jim and Al are on one and the rest of the band, my wife, and I are on the other. The carts drove in front of the venue and you hear everyone yelling "AL!!!!", except for one voice that yells, "Dave!!". Turned out a friend of mine from my company was there. That turned out to be quite funny hearing my name yelled while everyone is yelling for Al.
We were about 10 rows back and the sound was great. The set went off without a hitch with the exception of it being a blast furnace that day. Hot doesn't explain it! I agree that the front row was unfortunately one of the worst seats. The stage is very high so it is difficult to see a thing. Plus, as someone mentioned, the speakers are basically behind the people in the front row. The Star Wars guys were pretty funny! They had a good time, I believe. Jim and I watched a video of Zappa in concert before the show. Zappa's old guitarist, Steve Vai, is a maniac and has a solo with just some of the craziest noises! Anyway, Jim threw a couple of "Steve Vai" guitar stuff here and there throughout the show. Hammer is the guy who has the luxury of dressing up as the "Ho" during Fat. I've been busting on him about that all summer. I've got some great shots of him holding the harmonica and wearing the "Ho" outfit where he is just staring me down while I click off the pictures. At one point he cracked up a bit and blew me a kiss. He said if I were going to have this to hold over his head, he was going to make sure people thought... well, basically that I was dating him or something. Not his words as this is a rated PG sight!
I competed with Fred for amount of pictures taken but she's a pro. Beat me by about 200. That says something as I took over 300. I think she told my wife that she had a little over 500. I'll post some from the evening a little later.
After the show, we went and grabbed something to eat and the wife was so hot and miserable that she showered in the dressing room. She locked the door and we were yelling to her that we had the key. I handed out a couple of meet and greet passes to a few of the fans that seemed to really enjoy the show. They were thrilled.
We all hung for a bit but they had to get going a little earlier than normal as they had an 11 hour drive ahead of them. It's probably the last show we'll go to this tour. That being said, it was a blast!
Enjoy the rest of the tour and I'll get some of the pictures up after work!
