it may be redundant to have two concert DVDs with many of the same songs (of course, I'd like to have the (There's No) Going Home concert on DVD as well), but wouldn't that be almost as redundant as having many complete music video collections? In 1985 there was The Complete Al, which had every Weird Al music video made until then, and later there was another video collection, which had all the same music videos (but no mockumentary footage) plus all the oens made since then. Then there were a few smaller videos that compiled newer music videos. And then there was Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos, which included every Weird Al music video plus Spy Hard (and people who had all of the previous collections and the Spy Hard movie on video would have had them all, in addition to a listing of facts on the packaging). The two Running with Scissors music videos were then released on the Live! video (and DVD), and then we got The Ultimate Video Collection, which only had three music videos not from the preivous collection (and a swas just said, two were already released on other videos and DVDs), as well as some music videos (which made it a much more special DVD release). And to think, if Emeniem would have just let Al make a Couch Potato music video then we'd have another new-to-DVD music video on that set...
Of course, all that might be considered different from a new concert DVD, and I do feel a bit mixed about this (I have both complete msuic video DVD collections, plus the Alapalooza and Bad Hair Day videos), but newer releases of all of Al's videos means buying many of the same music videos again (if the consumer already has one of them) But unlike a new DVD release of every music video, a new concert DVD wouldn't have all of the same music videos as the last one had plus new ones, though it would still have soem of the same songs. But there are probably fans who don't have Weird Al Yankovic Live! (I don't know whether this DVD is still in print, but it's been years since I last saw a copy for sale), just like how there may be fans who don't have The Vidoes or The Ultimate Video Collection by the time another updated DVD comes out (and I figure there will be one eventually).

None of the VHS compilations included every video, and nobody cares about VHS anymore. The only DVD collection was out of print for years. TUVC was an upgrade to fix that, not an entirely new collection.weird user @ Jul 17 2008, 10:23 PM wrote: it may be redundant to have two concert DVDs with many of the same songs (of course, I'd like to have the (There's No) Going Home concert on DVD as well), but wouldn't that be almost as redundant as having many complete music video collections?
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

The Complete Al did, though that's more of a mockumentary. But after I wrote that, I looked at the official site's catelogure page, and saw that the Video Library release wasn't complete like I'd previously thought (and I also thought there was another video collection, but I couldn't find it listed there).

The Complete Al was released after DTBS, so it only had the videos from up until that point. That's hardly all of his videos. Besides, that tape has long been out of print.
There was a DVD video release put out in after BHD (in 1997, I believe) but that just had the videos up through BHD. The Live DVD contained the videos from RWS. TUVC is the most complete set at this point, though of course with all the videos from SOL, it's not complete anymore.
At one point there was a VHS video collection of ALL of his videos (up to that point) that was only available over the phone. That's the one set that I never purchased.
I think with all the videos from SOL (especially TitDT, W&N, and DICYO), we're more likely to get another Video Collection than we are a live DVD. And if you think about it, we KNOW Al's not releasing anything from this tour. So the next tour will likely be in 2010 at the earliest. By that point, he'll have released some more videos (at least 2 I would think/hope) from his next album.
Then again, with iTunes and the widespread availability of videos on the Internet, the likelyhood of another video collection is rather limited as well.

The availability of videos on the Internet has a big impact on the likelyhood of companies to release video collections. It's very easy to see whatever video you want whenever you want on the Internet. And most people won't sit down and watch 20+ videos in a row. So, the market for DVDs of music videos is very low. In fact, I've been patiently waiting for certain artists, like Eminem and Aerosmith, who have a lot of excellent music videos, to release a DVD collection. But they haven't because there's not much of a market for them.
So, the availability of videos on youtube (and other online sources) is directly related to the issue of purchasing, Louie.

You can buy the videos on iTunes. If you have TUVC and SOL, then you have all but four videos ("White and Nerdy," "Do I Creep You Out," "Trapped in the Drive-Thru," and the elusive "King of Suede" video). Do we really need an upgrade for four videos, three of which are readily available online?
Maybe after a few more albums/videos, but there's no need for a new video set yet.
