Live versions better/worse than studio versions?
I've never been to a concert, so I'd be interested to hear the concert goers opinion on this:
Are there live versions that you feel are better than the studio versions?
I've obviously only seen the live video, but judging from that, I say that I much prefer the live version to "My Baby's in Love With Eddie Vedder" over the album version.
On the flip side, I don't care for the live "Jerry Springer". It's too slowed down, and I know that's so Al can keep up (And it makes you realize why he never even attempted to do "Hardware Store")

QUOTE I've never been to a concert,
:nervous:
I prefer the concert version of DED, simply because the synthesising effects are more echo-ey and louder. In fact, seeing as all of them were performed at super-high volumes in Brisbane, I prefer all of them to the studio versions.
As for JS, I was in too much of an Al-induced haze to notice.
And Free Delivery is better in concert.

I much prefer the concert versions of "One More Minute," "Fat," "Like A Surgeon," and "Melanie." And that's not because of the visuals! I think they sound a lot better than the album versions, which isn't to say that the album versions are not good on their own!
I also prefer the beginning of "Bedrock Anthem" in the concert. If you listen to the opening of the album version compared to the opening of "Under the Bridge," Jim's guitar work is really inferior to that of the Chilli Pepper's guitarist (not Flea, but I can't think of his name). But in the concert version of BE, Jim nailed the original intro beautifully.
I also really liked TBBOTIM and MBILWEV live. I have a tape that I recorded from the live DVD. I really like listening to it, independent of the visuals. Sometimes I wish that Al would release a live album inbetween each of his regular albums like Aerosmith does, but then we'd have to wait like 8 years for a new album!

The studio versions are perfect, without a single flaw, but seeing it live has these advantages:
1. The music is being blasted from a precision sound system through many gigantic speakers.
2. Al is right there on stage. RIGHT THERE! IN FRONT OF YOU!
3. The costumes, lights, and fog really contribute.
4. Perhaps because it is possible for Al to mess up on stage, it is even more fabulous when he gets through a whole show without a single mistake.
5. Even if something does get messed up, you are so overwhelmed by the magic of it all to notice. Al could fall right off the stage, and you would just be in a daze, thinking "Wow, he sure is talented at falling off the stage. Even I can't do that as good as him. He is so multi-talented!"
