Unless you're station manager or format requires you to ask, I would suggest you stay away from the standard questions -- you know the ones -- which are just going to evoke a scripted answer. Ask questions that allow him to give a more personal answer -- without getting too personal of course!!
If it's a college radio station, I agree with the suggestion to ask him about his own college experiences. What clubs/groups was he active in? What were some of his favorite classes/subjects? How did he come to work at the campus radio station? Did he ever get in trouble or was he a good student (in & out of the classroom), etc.
When he tours, does he get a lot of time to himself, or does he do a lot of sight-seeing, or is it all business all the time? What are his favorite places to visit (on & off tour)? Has he ever been to [insert a big attraction in your town here]? What are his favorites cities/venues to perform at? What bands/CDs does he currently listen to to relax. What is his favorite current movie/TV show/book/magazine? What's the recording process like? Can I borrow $5.00?

I was planning on that.. But original (genuinely interesting) questions are hard to come up with when you've seen and heard sooo many Al interviews like I have, and I'm sure everyone here has.Unless you're station manager or format requires you to ask, I would suggest you stay away from the standard questions -- you know the ones -- which are just going to evoke a scripted answer. ...*scratches "What colour of underwear are you wearing?" off of the potentials list.. sorry Al-Gals*
It's not college radio, it's our local Top 40/pop/rock type station... But these would be good coming from the radio business perspective! If it's a college radio station, I agree with the suggestion to ask him about his own college experiences.
