the bashing was the implication that the subway in NYC is unsafe to ride on around 11PM on a Thursday night, which is totally untrue. Except for some of the ghetto sections of the city (and believe me, the UWS is as far from the ghetto as you can get), NYC is a totally safe city to be in at that hour, including underground.
Don't take it personal, I just have a lot of pride in the city I live with, and I get really tired of everybody (all of whom don't even live here) who act like we're still as crime ridden as we were 20 years ago, when NYC is now on the list of the 10 SAFEST cities in the country!

In defense of NYC -- I've ridden the subway on my own late at night (going uptown from Penn Station) and it was fine. Even walking a few blocks at night is fine -- the city's well lit. I prefer to be with a friend or two, but sometimes I'm not. Ask me to do the same in Chicago and I'll probably say "no thanks." Even being out late at night in my own downtown Madison neighborhood doesn't feel as safe as NYC does.
This means something. This is important.

Bermuda's right. There's no guarantee and there's no way to know in advance. The best advice I can give is to find the bus or stage door and wait it out. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.socby19 @ Sep 19 2007, 09:31 PM wrote: So I asked Bermuda about a tentative meet and greet, and got the following:
As I tell everyone who asks, there's no guarantee that an open meet & greet will happen after any given show, and we never know in advance.
By any chance does anybody know? Dave?
As long as you use common sense and don't be an idiot, Manhattan is a relatively safe place to visit and travel around in. There are are certainly worse places to be late at night. But yeah, like any time you're traveling alone or through unfamiliar territory, it helps to be extra vigilant. It's better to err on the side of safety.

When have I ever, EVER "bashed" the city of New York?!? If you're going to pull an ignorant accusation out of thin air, then show some bloody proof. >:Srichegreen @ Sep 19 2007, 10:13 PM wrote: And I've had enough of your NYC bashing!
I am a big fan of New York, and try to get there as often as I can, but the fact remains is that almost every current travel guide for the city, including every annually updated Frommers book, still advises against using the subway at night. And I would personally caution people about riding the subway later at night after a concert in almost any metropolitan city.
I can appreciate civic pride, but frankly you're out of line and I want an apology from you.

All of this line of discussion is off topic and needs to stop. Sure, there may have been an implication that NYC is unsafe, which it isn't, but there's no reason to overreact about it. Nor is there a reason to call people names like "ignorant" and demanding apologies. Let's all just take a deep breath and move on to more productive conversation. If you two want to settle your conflict, please do so in private rather than out in the open on the forum.
Thank you.
And I hope all you New Yorkers enjoy the concert as much as I did!

10 hours, 48 minutes till show time! And, 7 hours, 28 minutes till I head out to go to the show. Very excited, can't wait!
Edit: Don't forget I'll be collecting signatures for the Make The Rock Hall Weird campaign since I'm getting there before Nancy, so if you see me, please come say hi and sign the petition. As I said before, I should be easy to spot. I'll be wearing a Tie Dye Beatles Yellow Submarine T Shirt and blue jeans.

I was elected to lead, not to read.
