The Simpsons has had so many music moments that I think including it as a series would be better. Think of "Stark Raving Dad" (Homer goes to the mental institution and is roomates with a guy who thinks he's Michael Jackson) or the one last year with Homer going to the rock 'n' roll camp ("Rule #1: There are no rules! Rule #2: No outside food.").

But yeah, Al should be #1.

(As an aside SG, Spinal Tap is a hysterical movie. You must at least rent this classic!!)
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

Anth, I agree. They should have just picked the Simpsons without specifying an ep. Even so, Al should have won, but even if he didn't it wouldn't have been so outlandish.

QUOTE Except that the programming chimps are also used to compile these pointless lists.

Now come on, if that was true, they would have told us that Al was coming up, and then instead just show "I Love the '70s: 1973"...again.

I don't know who made the ranking, but it seems as if Spinal Tap was given the #1 slot because, unlike Al, they (or rather, the movie) comment on literally every part of the whole music industry. "This is Spinal Tap" works perfectly as a satire (and I'm not even sure that would be the correct word).

Al pokes fun at the music world in his own way too, of course, but it seems as if musicians can relate to Tap more. Usually when discussing the movie, there is the prerequisite interview clip from someone saying, "Oh yeah, that's happened to us before a concert...we're calling that stuff 'Spinal Tap moments' now." Spinal Tap has become a sort of in-joke in the music industry.

And of course, none of this is meant to take anything away from Al. I'm just saying I can understand why it ranked #1.

I can understand why it ranked above him too. I don't agree, of course. But I do have a problem with the Simpsons ranking above him.

QUOTE But I do have a problem with the Simpsons ranking above him.

I think I'm echoing something that was already said in the thread, but I wouldn't have minded the "Simpsons" if the honor was for the whole show and not just one episode.

If you look at the series as a whole and see the number of musicians who have appeared to simply poke fun at themselves, it's mind-boggling. Although I suppose the "Homerpalooza" episode demonstrates the diversity of artists who appear on the show, but really the show has poked fun at the rock world better in "Homer's Barbershop Quartet" and "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation."

True enough. And in that case I would have ranked it

1. "Weird Al" Yankovic

2. The Simpsons

3. This Is Spinal Tap

I may, however, be a bit biased. :satisfied:

I think Al should have been number one too. I dident find half of the people on the list that funny besides one or two. Heres the order I would ranked the top three:

1) Weird Al

2) Foo Fighters

3) Dana Carvey with The Woman I know.

I echo SD's rankings. I understand ST is probably a funny movie, and since my dad owns it, I can watch it anytime.

But I just think Al has spanned over so much and reached a bigger audience...Simpsons has a wide range, too, but then again Simpsons isn't all about Rock music. The few musical episodes are hilarious, but I don't know as if they should be ranked ABOVE Al!!

:inlove:

#1 all-time most requested artist on Dr. Demento

#1 highest attendance record for a concert at the OC Fair (2000)-- not to mention the only artist ever booked there for six concerts in a row.

Anybody else know of any other #1's?
