As far as I could tell, that's what he did. He sang the first verse, then stopped. The band kept playing, and for a second I thought his mic had gone out. Then he started saying "hold on, ladies and gentlemen... we don't need to do this song. RADIO RADIO!"

Seemed pretty intentional to me.

Count me in with the others who were clueless.

I was wondering....how does it feel to play a joke on such a grand scale....

....and the punchline is missed?

I'm glad I got an explanation. I felt really stupid because I couldn't clue in those in my party as to what just happened.

When it's your show.... it's your call! I'll watch him do almost anything, but it's more fun to sing along, and I don't know that song. At least I can say it sounded familiar, but I didn't have a clue who did it!

Anyone else backing me up on this?

Someone, somewhere referred to the song as a "rescue" which makes sense. If you're in front of a few thousand people and some major glitch happens, what do you do? It's a lot better than just standing there saying "well, guess we're not going to be able to play that song." Sort of like "drum solo" or "base solo"...only longer.

I'd be clueless, too, Linda, if I hadn't been reading the Forum and happened to You Tube the Costello performance just the morning before Stockton (where it was played, much to my delight).

I'm still not that familiar with the song, but I really love it when Al and the guys break with tradition and kick it old school.

Well, i didn't know who did the original song, and I didn't know the lyrics, but I was sort of aware of what was going on because of reading the thread for the 'Fat' tracking mixup a couple weeks ago. But I can only speculate as to whether it was intentional or accidental this time around.

You know, I've seen that clip before. That had to be what Al was imitating. I make my kids listen to Elvis Costello, so I think we might have been a few who knew the song--well, it just proves that Al has good taste! :D I bought tickets for the concert at the Ohio State Fair, I'm curious to see if he does it again. He did a really great job with that song! I was a little bummed to miss Amish Paradise too. (I mean AP, I know the ones for Harry Potter but I've gotta catch on to all the Weird Al abbreviations!)

If any of you saw me with my much referenced nephew, Andrew, here's some pics you can appreciate:

Unrelated to the concert, but it has to do with Al:

Andrew's Al Cake

Inspired by some fan art - hope it isn't too much of a copy, but she needed easy ideas for an "Al Cake". She had said her hands are too shakey to do anything too detailed, but it looks like it came in handy for the hair!

Here's what happened after the show:

Aftershow related pics

Just a note about the pictures of my RRHoF shirt...check out Steve Jay's sig. The big dot on it is were Ruben stabbed me in the belly button. Who said he was reserved????

I said to him, something like, "Ruben! I never get to see you up close!", to which he rushed up to my face, nose to nose, and said something like: "Can you see me NOW!?! Is this close enough?" I told him it was scarey, so he did it a few more times. When I told him that was my husband right behind me, he made some funny face and backed off to have a few words with Al. They let me snap a quick one of them together. PRECIOUS! He was a HOOT! It was sort of like a roller coaster....scarey, but you want to ride again!

Those are some cool pics, Linda. And a funny story about Ruben too.

Finally got tired of waiting to be able to pay for getting my film developed, so I took this pic with my cellphone.

Those are some great pictures, Linda. Looks like it was really fun back there.

ChildoftheSpiral... I wanted that "Creep Crew" shirt SO BAD! but the bid eventually got too high for me on Ebay. It's awesome that you were abel to get it signed.

I know I promised a few people at the show that I'd upload pictures of the concert. And I still am planning on doing that. I just haven't had a whole lot of time in the past few days.

I also wanted to say I really enjoyed Al singing "Radio, Radio" I've always wanted to hear Al sing a serious song and it really was kind of a dream come true. I love AP as well, but I think it was a real treat to see him mixing it up. I mean how many times have we all heard AP? It was so nice to hear Al do something different. Really made me a fan of that song.

BTW... it was very nice to meet you Carole. I am always so glad to meet true Al fans, and I think you were as true a fan as I could have hoped for. I have a picture I took of me and my boyfriend with you sitting behind us... it's lovely.

Is anyone else going to the Pigeon Forge show?
My mom... who wasn't a fan before this concert... has gone Al crazy and bought tickets for the Pigeon Forge show. It's wonderful.

I was hoping to maybe meet some more WOWAYers there. I checked that thread but so far it doesn't seem like many of us are attending.

Anyways, I'll try to get those pics uploaded tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm not only busy these days but I'm a horrible procrastinater.
