The thing to keep in mind is not so much that Al wouldn't want to release an unused song but rather that it costs a lot of money to record and mix them, so there's not really a backlog of unreleased studio recordings. Al pretty much has his mind made up as far as what he wants to put on an album before he even steps into the studio so that he's not wasting either studio time or money.

We all just lucked out with the bonus of "You're Pitiful," but remember that it was recorded with the full intent of being on the album.

In the case of T-Pain it just sounds as if Al had sent feelers out to a number of artists following the fiasco with Atlantic and was just lucky enough to have T-Pain, Taylor Hicks (or whoever handles the song), and Chamillionaire all get back to him with respective permission. One parody idea had to be discarded in order for the album to fit a normal length (not to mention the inherent royalties for the parodies), so unfortunately T-Pain got the ax.

Is Al's MySpace page acting screwy for anyone else? It freezes, then I get a message saying a script is making it run slowly, and my computer will become unresponsive. I have to shut it all down. What's up with that?
Hmmm...something's gone horribly awry here...

Well didn't he actually say that we were only hearing a snippet of it during the concerts? But then again, maybe what he *did* have finished wasn't funny enough to him to record the whole thing...
Actually though, my guess was that he figured the album was getting to be R&B intensive so he just didn't do it for that reason...I wonder if he read any of our posts before the album came out about us thinking it already had too many rap and R&B songs...hmm.... |)

He definitely hung out in the spoiler forum, that's for sure.

But by the time we knew what songs were being parodied, all the songs had been recorded anyway.

Bummer. He's gonna be in DC on my birthday. :(

Oh well. I suppose I should just be happy with seeing him again in Kettering. Although, where seeing 2 Al shows is good, seeing 3 woulda been better.

C'mon Al, one more Indiana date! Please???

Ask Al questions! :whoot: Not a terribly informative set of questions this time around, but it's better than nothing. It's interesting that "I'm in Love with the Skipper" was considered for the album. I figured he probably wrote it just for the tour. I haven't heard the song yet, so I can't really say if I wish it had appeared on SOL.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

There are some nice photos, and some pretty cool Fanart is up at weirdal.com. Thanks for the heads up, Terri!

My cookies didn't make the cut. Maybe Jon figures the ones there already are enough.

Ah, well. Kinda sad, though. :(

Congrats to all who got their Fanart in the Gallery this time out!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I think I like the pencil drawings best. Especially the last one.
I have no idea where in NZ that NZ pic is from, but it loooks like a pretty spectular place.
This means something. This is important.
