Yeah, I'd have to agree with LN3000, I don't see how videos comprised of iMovie style presets and iPhoto style slideshows are in any way on par with a full length animated video.
But the examples I'm talking about are done in flash animation, not the slide show ones. I'm talking about videos like "Albuquerque," TNSWC, and AWBP (I forgot to mention that one - EXCELLENT VIDEO!). Even still, the program used to make the videos is irrelevant. The quality of the animation, what the video adds to the song, and the funniness of the jokes are what matter. The animation of TitDT is fine. I have no beef with that aspect. It's the fact that it brought nothing new to the song and it didn't make me even crack a smile.
Like Bob said, it had me bored after the first couple minutes.
Everything else aside, the TITDT video has now close to 3 million views on Myspace making it the second most viewed Weird Al video on the net! And guess what, most comments are raving about it. The people have spoken!
There are 3 million people who actually CARED about the outcome of the Anna Nicole Smith paternity test, too. That doesn't make them at all a good judge of anything.
Besides, most of those people are not Al's fanbase, and they likely never heard the song before seeing the video. And like many of us have said, if the video was the first exposure we had to the song, we probably would have liked it just as much as those 3 million people. But that's to the credit of the SONG, not the VIDEO. I love the song, as I'm sure all those people who watched it on MySpace did, but the video just isn't good.
One thing I can say that's positive about the video, though: At least they didn't rely on any lame gimmicks. You know, like stupid camera angles and stuff.
