I had actually posted a bunch of Mad's pre-1999 Al references but removed it way back when I was hosting Survivor 2, and never put it back up.
Fortunately, I saved it:
In 1999, there were at least two articles, one two question interview and one reference in an article about how celebrities react to senseless acts of violence. (This is where the coffin pic came from.) I'll try to find the issues and type the text (no images though).
Alright, here are most of Al's appearances in Mad up to 1998.

Note that it's spelled "Yancovic." This is from an article about celebrities going to space.

This is from Cable TV Roulette, where we see a guy channel surfing. Brief, but I wanted to mention it.

This one's from a pretty lame wrestling article.

This is pretty strange. In Mad #324, two pages of the magazine simply printed the lyrics to "Jurassic Park," with a picture of the video in the background. Since we all know the lyrics and video, I just uploaded the introduction to the article.

This is from the same issue as the "Jurassic Park" lyrics, as you can see at the end of Mad's response. (For the record, Alapalooza was released October 5, 1993. The Mad cover is the December 1993 issue.)
There was one other pre-1998 reference. I didn't bother uploading it because it's simply a vidcap from the SLN video. It's grouped together with a bunch of videos featuring midgets.

I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

I was WONDERING who you were! My first guess was actually "opsman". My bad. Great to see you here, Max!whiteandnerdy @ Oct 14 2006, 08:49 PM wrote: Hey, C-Head! Nice of you to drop by! You might better remember me as maxkorn321 from the MAD boards.
In a neat twist, your "Smells Like Nirvana" Al-vatar is the one I use on the Concentricus e-zine website - www.concentricus.com - and my screen name over there is Canucklehead, too.
BTW, thanks to anthontherun for digging up those various MAD-Al pieces. Even though it shows I buggered up one of the parody lyrics for "Ain't Nobody Needs This Crazy World" from the "Celebrities In Space" article (I was quoting them from memory), I'm still glad to see all that MADness in this thread.
Proud to be a "CANADIAN IDIOT"!!!

In the latest issue of Mad #472, there's a screencap of AL's trivial pursuit card in the Letters Page.
