You should do it with puppets, that hasn't been done for a Weird Al video yet. Use a muppet style puppet of Al instead of actors.

Hmm... *Steals idea*

But I might not use it for CPIII.

No, it's just that as fans of Weird Al, Emperor of Parody and Grand High Poobah of Funny Videos, our expectations are naturally set rather high. Al has spoiled us rotten over the years.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Exactly right, OE. That's what I tried to say earlier. We've had over 20 years of continual excellence from Al. There have been a few minor disappointments when it comes to side projects, but the music, the videos, and the concerts have all been at a consistently high standard for a very long time. And most of the videos he's putting out for this album (granted, as a good attempt to compensate for the PH situation) have been far below that standard.

It's the same reason many of us had such a negative reaction when the DDTS video first premiered or when he gave a below par performance on Leno. Think about how you would react if you went to his concert and he had nixed the costumes, the videos, the medley, and all the other extra bits and just sang the songs straight. Sure, it'd still be a good concert, but you'd be disappointed because he's set such a high standard for the concert experience.

I can't believe all of the negative and so so reviews about this new video. I registered on this board just to speak my mind about this.

Me and several of my friends that have seen the video think it is SPECTACULAR. I think it is very different from what Al has done in the past and it is a PERFECT parody of the R. Kelly video. The video wasn't supposed to be all wacky and have randomn stuff or sight gags in the background. It fits in seamlessly with the song, which is low key, dead pan, subtle humor based off of real life events.

Apparently anyone who has been in a relationship with the opposite sex would understand this, so I guess everone on this board is a virgin.

If the animator Dogtoons had added additional stuff to the video it would have detracted from the original humor of the song. People who had never heard the song would have had TOO MUCH thrown at them and it would not be as funny upon first view. Not to mention, the timing and pacing of the video is RIGHT on the money, and no one has even addressed that. I am a fillmaker and I am very impressed with what I see.

So you all suck it up, because I hope there is a sequel.

The problem with aiming it towards people who hadn't heard the song before watching the video (which is what I think Doogtoons did) is the fact that nobody other than a Weird Al fan who has already heard the song is going to waste 11 minutes watching it.

Correct. It's not very entertaining.
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

I don't think it's what Al did. For most of the videos, he gave 'em the song and said "Here. Have fun." He left it up to the animators. So it's not different from what Al has done in the past. It's exactly like what Doogtoons has been doing all along.

I guess it's just a matter of taste. If you didn't like it the first time, you aren't gonna change your mind based on me blabbering about it. But I can't say it enough, I thought it was great. And apparently 90 percent of myspace agrees with me.

Also, I looked at the Dogtoons site and watched some of their videos and they are really funny. The Al one is great and the animation is not very literal, they manage to fit 2 or 3 jokes in a couple minutes that are based off of what Al is talking about, but the jokes aren't outlines in the dialogue... thus not everything is a literal illustration. The ninja ones especially.

Yeah, he really needs to stop doing that. I think I prefered it when Al was a control freak and insisted on managing every aspect of his videos. He needs to go back to that mindset and quit letting people spoil his videos.

If nothing else, Al has guaranteed that we will love the next live action video he does.
taste is only something if it is yours.
