It takes money to get Al to do an interview? Right after an album is released? More likely all it takes is a sufficiently large base of readers or listeners, and a polite request.
Interviews are good because it benefits both parties at (usually) no cost to either party. It helps the artist with album sales, and could potentially boost listenership to a show if fans tune in to hear their favorite artist interviewed. Everybody wins!
EDIT-I just listened to the interview. Yeah, I was a little uncomfortable listening to that, but that's college radio for ya! I probably would have been just as nervous had I interviewed Al when I was doing college radio.
There are some jaw-droppingly tasteless comments recently left, and I'm in a quandry as to how to respond to them.
As much as I don't believe in being mean or rude to people, I think we need to seriously slam these *holes.
People are entitled to their opinions about Al's music, but if this whole tour is going to be dogged with hurtful comments about Al's parents, I think we have a moral obligation to take on these fools.

I think we can respond to these idiots without being mean or rude, and I think we should. Al never will, but what's the point of cultivating a ridiculously loyal tourchasing fanbase if they won't defend you like rabid wolverines?
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

cody, when you look at the transcript for Al's interview, there are several comments above where the interview is posted. They aren't nice. That's what sg is talking about. It really is sad that some people find it necessary to post garbage like that.

No, I meant that his radio show is so bad that he SHOULD have paid Al to be there.

Done. It's a paid-membership forum, but what the hay, it was the best $9.95 I've spent so far this morning. The whole forum, though, seems to encourage that particular "humorous" mindset in its posters... just look at the default avatar I got automatically.

Well that's SA for ya. Most of the people there are huge Al fans. There was only one rude comment in that thread really. They actually had a 400 post+ thread defending Al for the morning glory interview. Some have tried contacting the sponsers to get the show taken off the air.
But yeah, it's a vulgar humor forum, you have to expect that.
(btw, if you don't get banned for bringing up that dead thread, can I have your account? I'm a poor student and have always wanted to join there )
Beautifully said, OE. It doesn't matter if it's only one tasteless comment and where it is mentioned: it still hurts.

And who knows what they'll take the 'o' in 'Oenthusiast' to stand for...
