It's still a top ten album, people! This is still awesome news! Al debuted a comedy record in the top ten for the very first time! We should all be happy about this! I know I am! I was right when I said it would debut in the 6-10 slot! Woot!

I need a TWS!!

And there'll be other Billboard charts that could have an Al presence to keep an eye out for too

OK, people, now that that's over, we gotta keep SOL in the public eye! We can't keep buying it obviously, but there are other ways. Go throw more votes at W&N over at VH1, for instance.

Just to put Al's #10 debut (yay, yay!) and 72,600 albums sold in perspective: Johnny Cash had his posthumous #1 debut with only 88,000 albums. The actual numbers of albums sold to reach certain spots on Billboard vary wildly according to what else is in release.

That's a great point too. That was the exact opposite of last week. There have been weeks where SOL would have been a top 5 album, and even weeks where Poodle Hat (if it was released today) would've debuted in SOL's place. It's luck of the draw as much as straight sales sometimes.

Very good point. Both Ludacris and Janet had very big debuts, so Al wasn't exactly up against light competition. It's actually more impressive than if SOL had been released during a slow sales week.

I was shocked by Ludacris' debut to be honest. I mean, 324,000 albums or something like that? Are people crazy?!?

Then again, having exposure on a national show such as the TODAY show may have helped those first week sales as well...didn't one of the debuting artists show on Oprah a couple days before the release? Maybe I'm just making things up...

I am SO proud of AL and TBITB for a #10 debut. Like Catra so eloquently put it, whether sales go up or down, matters not. This is still a landmark for everyone involved, and one that has been a long time coming to some of the most talented artists (AL AND TBITB, I mean) in the comedy music biz.

72,600, in its first week? Go, Go, SOL go!

It was Janet that was on Oprah.

And that's clearly evident when you look at how her songs are performing on ITunes vs Al's (Two songs in the top 50 vs. a song that's barely in the top 100...and you can't even use the "It was out longer" excuse....they pretty much came out around the same time). Without that Oprah boost, it's a safe bet her album would've went nowhere beyond it's initial fanbase.

But there's no reason to harp on anyone's music taste. Let's just celebrate Al
