Either he sought permission from the show or the songwriters (or probably very likely both entities). Ya, Taylor didn't write the song. He gets permission from the label (Simon Cowell's label, Cowell also produces AI) and the writer.

I could have sworn that the top 2 or so from AI had to write their own song, and that DIMYP way Taylor's song...
