The artcle was from the week the album came out... guess Al got permission from the American Idol people (they do basically control his career, don't they?) and they never bothered to pass on the info to Taylor...

Either he sought permission from the show or the songwriters (or probably very likely both entities). The show plus composers Tracy Ackerman and the Absolute team all received special thanks right after all the original artists were listed.
