I had been gullible and thought that HMWAR was also on weirdal.com, it wasn't.
My browser cache needed flushing, then the link for YP showed up.
I took the dare to be stupid.

Alright, guys. I'm trying as hard as I can to turn You're Pitiful into an internet meme. If it reaches that kind of status, word will surely spread 100 times faster. I've started by making a ytmnd about the recent Cease and Desist letter written to Max by the church of Scientology. If anyone else wants to try to popularize this song on Something Awful, Fark, Newgrounds, or any of the other big internet humor sites, I'm sure it would do nothing but help Al's record sales.

This is going very well. It is at the very TOP of the Top 5 Rated ytmnds. That is the second highest honor a site can recieve. This is sure to draw attention to it.

Alright, I have a little more commentary on the song today. When I posted last night, I was in an Al-induced haze and I couldn't think of much to say. Let me just say that when I saw that Al had a new song, I ran around my house screaming while it downloaded. When I heard it, I laughed so hard I had a coughing fit. I then put the song on my iPod so I didn't have to hear it coming out of my crappy laptop speakers. I've now lost count of how many times I've heard it. I am extremely impressed. For one thing, this is a very clever and funny parody. Al's voice sounds better than it ever has. That was really the first thing that struck me. He sounds awesome. I'm also very impressed by how close the music sounds to the original, especially at the beginning. This is going to be one of those parodies that confuses a lot of people when they first hear it. They'll be expecting James Blunt and instead, they'll hear Al.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Kevbo. Al has a very nice vibrato, which really hasn't been heard before. The music is wonderful. I played the song for my friend, Shelia, who likes Al, just not as much as I do. She liked the song, and agreed that the music sounded really good. It seems like there's been quite the buzz about this song in the media, too. This was probably a very good idea on Al's part, to release the song online.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Already the reverse effect has happened to me.

Yesterday afternoon I told Rebecca how the song turned up on a morning show somehow (it was Q104, in case Kevbo wanted to know), so she spent the rest of the afternoon trying to call the station to ask them to play it again. They were having some stupid "Music Survivor" thing going on all day, so it took a while for her to get through to the station.

Finally, as we were leaving to go out to dinner around seven or so, she gets the deejay on the phone and, in a hilarious bit of playing dumb, asks "This morning you guys were playing a funny song by, oh what's his name, that Weird Al guy. It was making fun of 'You're Beautiful,' I think called 'You're Pitiful.' Can you play it again please?" The deejay said he'd try to look for it, since he for some reason seemed unsure where the morning show kept their tracks. Rebecca and I had a pretty long drive ahead of us, so we kept the station on the whole time just to see if it turned up.

Anyway, with no Al in earshot, eventually we got to the restaurant, ate, and then left. On the drive back we still had the station on and we started to hear those opening guitar strands. We both freeze. But of course, then we hear James Blunt's voice, and we both let out our breaths, not surprised but still a tad disappointed.

OK, if someone has the time or inclination to do an internet cleanup, here's a link to the supposed "Al" song, HMWAR (I assume sung to the Paul Simon tune "Loves Me Like a Rock")

http://www.lyricstime.com/weird-al-yank ... yrics.html

Seems like a few other websites have picked it up too. Just do a google and there are a few others. I'd start sending out correcting emails, but I have to leave in a few minutes.

Oh, and I feel your pain, CD. At Sulphur Creek (where I'll be heading shortly) they have an oldies station, and so many times they've started to play I Love Rock 'n Roll or Bad or Another Bites the Dust...they're great songs, but just not the same.

BTW, just what is a YTMND and an internet MEME?
