Every time I walk into a store that sells DVDs I look for UHF. I haven't found ONE copy yet! I think the demand for this DVD is underestimated by retailers.
It's not
that bleak at the stores around me, but I do know what you mean. With the exception of the one Suncoast by me that has a really hip manager and put "UHF" in their front "featured" section, you have to do some real searching to find it in a store.
But I guess that was expected. I mean, as far as most retailers are concerned, it's just an MGM catalog title. Most likely the more music and cult movie-centered chains (as I mentioned, Suncoast, or maybe even Borders....or if you're lucky enough to find an FYE that still has a pulse to it) would be able to point it out to you in a heartbeat.
"UHF" seems to be unique in that a lot of the vibe is coming off the Internet. And I don't just mean us. A lot of DVD forums, mailing lists, and web sites were eagerly awaiting the release. And it looks like most of those same folks had pre-ordered the disc on one web site or another. I don't know exactly what point I'm trying to make....maybe that the DVD became a hit without being a brick-and-mortar retail hit.
Someone sent me an e-mail last week wondering if the "UHF" DVD has gone Gold yet. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? I rarely hear of Gold or Platinum applying to movies, and Billboard and the RIAA offers little to no help.
What
I'm personally wondering is if the DVD is affecting sales of the soundtrack.
