Thanks for the review, OE. Sounds like it was a nice concert. That's a pretty cool sound file, too. God bless Bill Tapia. Keep on playing, Bill!

:D
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

It wasn't Bill who did "Over The Rainbow" (though I'm sure he could do so if asked), it was Kapo Ku. A vocal with a really surprising amount of "heart," considering what old standards both "Rainbow" and "Wonderful World" are.

I got "The Paul Simon Songbook," Dylan's "Oh Mercy" and a Maire Brennan CD (singer with Clannad).

Yes, I talked briefly with Jim, about when he might be playing again at the Hawaiian restaurant in Gardena. He wasn't sure. But I'd like to invite my Hawaiian coworker and his kids over there for breakfast...
... and really surprise the middle kid, who met Jim backstage at the OC Fair last year (hugged him, too, whether Jim wanted to be hugged or not) but who has no idea that Jim also plays what amounts to his family's "roots music." I wanna be there to see when he finds out. :)
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

We were able to watch the live webcast back in March. It was so much fun. I had to be at a conference by 7:30 am 4 hours away the next day. I planned on visiting the site, sending a quick email and going to bed. Didn't happen. Spent the whole night with my wife watching the concert. It was great! Lot's of Jim's wit and small jokes about where the music came from and what it means!

If you caught it or like Coconut Hat, his new album is even better! I suggest everyone buy it!!!

Um... AFAIK, I don't think it is, yet. Jim did say at Kulak's that he was working on one, but not a word about it in Claremont (the only CDs for sale were about 3 copies of Coconut Hat), or on his slack key website. I think maybe Dave was talking about the new songs that were played at Kulak's and that WILL be on the new album.

Sorry about that!

The new CD should be out in the next few weeks, I imagine. I actually have heard it though and it is wonderful. It's the kind of music that will instantly put you in a good mood! Or it makes you want to sit in a hammock with an iced daquari, close your eyes and wish you were somewhere tropical!

Don't worry about it :)

My boss told me he took his wife and kids out to dinner last night at Roy's (it's Hawaiian cuisine) and he said they had Coconut Hat playing. Cool :)

He also said his daughter downloaded some Al songs from iTunes and she's been singing them - hehe :)

Hi Princess.

Wife and I are lucky enough to know Jim. He has given us an advance copy of the CD.

I don't want to spoil it for everyone but let me tell you one thing, track number 8 (can't pronounce it) is absolutely incredible! It is a song about the setting sun over fishing grounds in Maui.

Enjoy!
