Okay, I'm going to just post the start of the challenge. I've checked and rechecked the links to make sure everything's working okay. However, if when completing the challenge, you encounter a glitch, please let me know via a PM rather than clogging the thread. It is possible that you might encounter a glitch simply because you answered one of the legs incorrectly, especially with the "Video Scavenger Hunt" leg.

Okay, here's the first leg of the challenge!

No. And just to be clear, "George of the Jungle" and "Twister" are not parodies either.

Are you using the same scheme to match up characters with albums as the Star Wars challenge?

The word count part is very straight forward. Just go to alsongs.com, click on the appropriate song, and copy the text. Then, paste it into a word document, and it'll give you the word count. So, if the question is about SLN, copy and paste into Word and find the word count.

ATTENTION SURVIVORS!

I've encountered a small glitch in part of the challenge. When you get to the EIGHTH lap of the "Go Fish For Parodies" leg of the challenge, you are meant to total the word counts for the parody and the original in question. Then, you multiply that number by 27 and put it into the URL provided in the instructions. However, somehow I think I must have misread the numbers on my calculator. Anyway, when you get this number, you will need to subtract 8 to get the number that works in the URL.

BTW, there is one player who is on the very last lap of the challenge and has EVERYTHING up to it solved correctly. That person is just about ready to get to the final leg of the challenge - The Logic Puzzle - and is confident that he/she will win this challenge tonight! So, if you're still working on the challenge, HUSTLE!!!! :o

THE CHALLENGE IS OVER!!!!!

After FIVE long grueling days, the Immunity Challenge is FINALLY over! The person who has won Immunity, the Al's Buddies Reward, and a DVD filled with ALL of Al's mock interviews, not to mention my respect for being able to battle through such a daunting challenge in the first place, is.........

DrSteggy!!!!!!!

Image

Great job, Jackie! Now you can choose one of the four Al's buddies to help you out:

Cousin Corky - Erase previous votes
Hooded Avenger - Extra vote at tribal council
Madame Judy - A peek at the next challenge
Val Brentwood - A look at previous tribal councils' votes

I know you're working today, so make your decision whenever you can!

In a momnet, I will post the COMPLETE solution to this challenge (it will take several posts) and then the Tribal Council announcement.

Medley From Hell: The Solutions

We’ll take this one round at a time, going in the order that you would go if you were solving all the puzzles in a row.

LEG #1: Star Wars Challenge

First off, there was the starting picture:

Image

To figure out which song this represented, you first needed to discover the code, which was very similar to the “Star Wars” code-breaking challenge. For each picture, the actor pictured indicates the album that the song is from. The first letter of the actor’s first name indicates the album in chronological order:

A – “Weird Al” Yankovic
B – In 3-D
C – Dare to be Stupid
D – Polka Party!
E – Even Worse
F – UHF
G – Off the Deep End
H – Alapalooza (it just so happens that I couldn’t find an actor from the movie whose first name starts with “H,” so there are no songs here from Alapalooza)
I – Bad Hair Day
J – Running With Scissors
K – Poodle Hat

The color of the background indicates the number parody it is on the album. But instead of going in order of the rainbow, the colors were ordered alphabetically.

Blue – First parody on the album
Green – Second parody
Orange – Third parody
Purple – Fourth parody
Red – Fifth parody
Yellow – Sixth parody (What? No albums have six parodies? Well, I guess that should have been a big tip-off when you saw that color for the red herrings.)

So, for the first picture, we have:

Gedde Watanabe = “Off the Deep End”
Purple = Fourth
Song = “Taco Grande”

Leg #2: “Go Fish For Parodies

“Rico Suave” and “Taco Grande” contain a total of 765 words.
765 x 27 = 20,655

Leg #3: “Picture Trivia”

Image

BEET + 2 IDI AMINS
FAIRY
FUR + STATUE – ACHOO
THREAD

Solution: BTD’s very first thread

Leg #4: “Thread Posting”

”Favorite Rap Song”
Follow the link to the next leg.

Leg #5: “Beard Hal Rhyme Time”

Image

Solution: “Near, far, I’ll jump in my car”
Song: “Free Delivery”
Alsong.com #129
129 x 14 = 1806

Leg #6: “Al’s Co-Workers”

Code: Select all

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/CharlesFleischer.jpg

Charles Fleischer appeared on “The Weird Al Show”

So the correct URL for the next leg is:

Code: Select all

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/TheWeirdAlShow1806.jpg

Leg #7: “Video Scavenger Hunt”

Image

That picture is from is from “Headline News,” track number 9 on TUVC.

So, your next page should have been:

Code: Select all

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/UHFClue09.jpg

Leg #1: “Star Wars Challenge”

Image

David Bowe (“Bob”) = “Polka Party!”
Purple = Fourth
Song = “Toothless People”

Leg #2: “Go Fish For Parodies

“Ruthless People” and “Toothless People” have a combined word count of 382.
382 x 27 = 10314

Leg #3: “Picture Trivia”

Image

WINSTON ZEDMORE (character from “Ghostbusters”) + GROOM
RYAN STILES + TORI AMOS

Solution: Winston Groom style story

Leg #4: “Thread Posting”

“Alfred Gump”
Follow the link to the next leg.

Leg #5: “Beard Hal Rhyme Time”

Image

Solution: “All the soda jerkers know my name”
Song: “I Love Rocky Road”
Alsongs.com #3
3 x 14 = 42

Leg #6: “Al’s Co-Workers”

Code: Select all

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/MarcSummers.jpg

Marc Summers hosted “Family Double Dare,” on which Al was a contestant.

So, the next leg should be on this URL:

Code: Select all

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/FamilyDoubleDare42.jpg

Leg #7: “Video Scavenger Hunt”

Image

That image is from “Bedrock Anthem,” track number 6 on TUVC.

So, your next page should be:

Code: Select all
