Immunity Challenge: "The Medley From Hell"
PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING!
This challenge is very complex, so make sure you read the directions very carefully! There are 8 legs to this challenge, all based on previous challenges from Weird Al Survivor All Stars. The first 7 legs cycle around, with one leg leading you to the second, the second leading you to the first, and so on until the seventh leg leads you back to the first leg. Then, youll continue going through the legs several more times until youre ready for the 8th leg. Confused yet? Okay, lets take this slow, one leg at a time.
The ultimate goal here is to complete the EIGHTH leg. Once you do that, youll have won the challenge. The eighth leg is a logic puzzle very similar to the one you did in the last Immunity Challenge. Here is the premise for the puzzle:
==================================================
Its time once again for the fabulous U62 Telethon! Sixteen years ago, George Newman acquired U62 from his Uncle Harvey and hes been working tirelessly to keep the channel running strong. This year, the telethon featured an eight-hour marathon of episodes from the first year of Georges run at the station. The marathon featured two episodes from each of eight different shows: two educational shows (Secrets of the Universe and Rauls Wild Kingdom), two talk shows (Town Talk with George Newman and Stanley Spadowskis Clubhouse), two game shows (Wheel of Fish and Strip Solitaire), and two sports shows (Chef Ernies Bowling for Burgers and Celebrity Mud Wrestling). The 16 half hour shows ran from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. During this time, four different people hosted the telethon for 2 hours each. Each host was a star from one of U62s best shows (Kuni was one of the hosts). Each two-hour block included one show from each of the four categories (educational, talk, game, and sports), though not necessarily in that order. Can you discover the order in which the four people hosted the marathon and which shows were aired during each half-hour time slot?
========================================================
To solve the puzzle, youll need to collect ten different clues! But to get the clues, youll need to go through the other SEVEN legs of the challenge!
FIRST LEG The Star Wars Challenge
To start off, I will post a picture here in the Game Play thread of a character from UHF. Using a code VERY SIMILAR, but not exactly the same as the Star Wars Challenge, you need to figure out which song the picture represents (again, itll be from one of Als 11 studio albums).
Because the first version of this challenge proved to be so difficult, Im going to give you a few little hints!
All of the songs in this leg are parodies!
The characters pictured indicate the album.
The background colors DO indicate which number parody the song is, just like in the Star Wars challenge. So, if the color indicates the number 2, and the album is Alapalooza, then the song would be Bedrock Anthem, since thats the SECOND parody on the album.
However, the color/number correlation is not the same as in the Star Wars challenge. That is to say, that they dont go in the same order of the colors on the rainbow. But the order that they DO go in for this challenge should be very simple to discover.
SECOND LEG Go Fish For Parodies
The song indicated by the UHF picture will be a parody. Using the web site, alsongs.com and the word count feature on your Word Processing program, figure out how many words are in Als parody, plus the number of words in the original song. Finally, multiply that number by 27 and stick that final number into this URL in place of the question marks (Note: your number may have more or less digits than the number of question marks. Thats okay. Type the number as it appears on a calculator, with no commas.):
Code: Select all
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/ThreadTrivia????.jpg
When you do this, youll be taken to the next leg of the challenge.
THIRD LEG Picture Puzzle Trivia
The URL will take you to a Picture Puzzle, which when solved correctly will give you a trivia clue. This time, however, the clue doesnt relate to an Al song. Instead, it relates to a specific thread on the WOWAY forums. When you think youve figured out what thread the clue is indicating, go find that thread, and go to the FIRST post in that thread made by ME (Bruce the Duck). This takes us to the fourth and easiest leg of the challenge.
FOURTH LEG Thread Posting
This part is easy. Just find the post by me (Bruce the Duck) in the thread in question that contains a link. Click on the link to be taken to the next leg of the challenge.
FIFTH LEG Beard Hal Rhyme Time
Youre back to the second challenge of the game! Youll be given a line or part of a line from an Al song, but all the words have been replaced with words that rhyme with them. Figure out the correct line, and more importantly the correct song! Then, go to the website
www.alsongs.com and go to the page for that song. Youll notice that in the URL at alsongs.com, each song has been given a number. For example, the URL for Belvedere Cruising looks like this:
Code: Select all
http://alsongs.com/index.cfm?view=alsong&songnumber=149
Take the song number (in the case of Belvedere Cruising it would be 149) and multiply it by the number 14. Now, write this number down and youll be ready for the next leg of the challenge.
SIXTH LEG Als Co-workers Reprise
If you go back to the screen with the Beard Hal clue, youll notice that the URL contains the name of a celebrity. That celebrity has worked with Al on either a TV show, movie, TV special, or music video. Take the name of the of the show and tack on the number that you generated in the Beard Hal leg and stick them into this URL in place of the question marks:
Code: Select all
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/?????????.jpg
For example, if the person appeared in Liberian Girl and the number from the last leg was 7429, your URL would look like this:
Code: Select all
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/850810/LiberianGirl7429.jpg
When you go to this URL, youll be on the seventh leg of the challenge! NOTE: Some celebrities MAY HAVE appeared in more than one thing with Al. If your first guess doesnt take you to the next leg, try finding another TV show/movie/special/etc in which the person has worked with Al.
SEVENTH LEG Video Scavenger Hunt
On this next URL, youll see a screen capture from one of Als music videos. Youll also see a specific URL on the screen that contains some question marks. Figure out which video the screen grab is from. Then, take the track number of that video from The Ultimate Video Collection and place it in the URL in place of the question marks. This will take you to the eighth leg of the challenge.
NOTE: If the track number of the video is a single digit number, place a zero in front of the number when you put it in the URL. For example, the number you would put in the URL for Fat would be 01
EIGHTH LEG Weird Al Logic Puzzle
This next page will contain two items. The first will be a clue for the U62 logic puzzle. Write this clue down or bookmark the page.
The second item will be another UHF picture. Yes, thats right! Youll take this picture and start all over again from the first leg!
There are 10 clues in all that you need to collect in order to solve the U62 Logic Puzzle. You will NOT be able to solve it without all the clues. Once you have collected all 10 clues, start working on the puzzle. When you are absolutely sure youve solved it correctly, send me a PM with your answers.
Be sure to include the order that the four people hosted the marathon as well as the times that each program aired.
BE WARNED : There are several phony clues out there, complete with phony UHF pictures. If you choose the incorrect video for the answer to the seventh leg, you may get a phony clue! If you follow the picture that is included with that clue, eventually you will come to a dead end. Go back and DISREGARD that clue. BUT DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE CLUE IS WRONG!!! Some of the phony clues are wrong and some are right! So it is best just to disregard all clues that lead you to a dead end.
Also, DO NOT attempt to solve the logic puzzle without all ten clues. Missing a clue or two could cause your answers to be all wrong.
Because this is such a difficult challenge, I will allow TWO incorrect submissions of your answers. If you send me the wrong answers THREE times, you will be out of the competition.
Also, just to make sure nobody wins by accidentally stumbling across the final page of the challenge prematurely, along with your answers to the U62 Logic Puzzle, you must also send me a list of each of the URLs involved in the challenge. For your convenience, you may copy and paste this template and fill it out with the appropriate URLs:
