I'm not a sequential major so I have no clue whats out there but I myself swear by Alvin's Penstix. The price can't be beat and they've got an array of sizes and the ink is great.

I found a 3 pack with the 3 major widths (0.7mm [called F], 0.3mm [called EEF] and 0.5mm [called EF]) for maybe 6 bucks at a store that usually overprices so odds are it will be in that range.

As for method, I pencil and I rest my hand on a second piece of paper at ALL TIMES to prevent smudging and hand oil from depositing on the paper. When I ink, I do so on a good sturdy surface so nothing moves around, and use the 2nd sheet of paper for my hand. I then erase with pink pearl. Love those things.

I scan, save multiple files of the inked outline and then dig in and color in Photoshop.

I used the pens for the Star Wars and Yankovic toon and colored in Photoshop.

Edit: Maybe If I get some time, I can do a tutorial on the forum. As long as people have a paint program that allows selections, blurring and layers-- then they can do some pretty sharp coloring.

All I have is "paint" I don't have photoshop or anything. How do ya get it?

I really wanna do all of this, I wanna go to the art store at get myself some better supplies and use photoshop and get myself my own scanner so I wont have to nag my dad all the time to do it for me (he wont let me use his computer or his scanner)

I drew a picture of al yesturday and I inked it (with my sharpies <_< ) and colored it. I'll scan it in sometime and show you guys.

I'm always poking around staples or best buy to see if they have any good stuff on sale. It's a pricy program at times and you can probabaly find it there. There also might be some online stores that have it at good prices but be wary of places like ebay because I always hear about people getting fake copies. Kinda like the Al dvds where they make it look real but it's just fake.

They might also have a demo of it somewhere but Im not sure of the functionality of said demo. I learned that the hard way with Maya at school. Full function demo but it wont interact files between the demo and full. Thats the only difference the demo had. Pain in the butt.

Well, I eventually went in and changed it. I dumped Yoda, and I changed the whole layout. I reduced the arch of the accordion to lend more weight to the circular shape and hang away from the center less. It's to my satisfaction for now. I was too irked with how much it looked like the other 'power of the force/yoda' picture.

I will ink and color as time lends to it. I had good luck with the Jedi Lightsaber Al so I hope this comes out well too.

On a side note... at Marty's page, a design I did with a photograph of Al ended up as this month's wallpaper for August. Check it out.

Aron, although I never said anything, I really enjoyed the progress you made with your first Jedi picture (it was like watching a picture develop). Now that you've gone in a different direction, I am really looking forward to the final out come of this one (I like the direction you're going with this one very much).

Hoping that you will keep up us updated of its progress. Good job! :)

Indeed, I'm boggled myself at how the other one actually ended up completed--- IN TIME.

I must have touched up stuff on it a thousand times. I cant even guess how many layers and sub layers for different parts' coloring I have.

I hope to finish this and make it more unique than it started out as. I still hit myself in the face with a frying pan daily over it.

Thankies for the commenting! They mean a lot!

As I understand it, you didn't see the other picture before you started working on yours. Therefore, no foul and no harm ... and certainly no reason to damage yourself with a frying pan (or anything, for that matter!). :D

Please blog as much as you would like ... it's enjoyable watching the process and progress of an artist at work.

And you're welcome. :)

I hope to try some more free and loose cartooning of Al's many guises.

I start stuff and put a lot of refinement into it (like these past few things) and I need to train myself to be loose and sketchy and gestural and capture the movement.

Movement is the focus especially since I'm really getting into my Animation classes.
