Nah, I've got something better in mind to get you back. After all, it's a long drive from Del Mar to Kelseyville.... and I'll be bringing my CDs along... :listen: :sly:
Uh-oh. :nervous:

Oh, I didn't tell you? I'm going incognito. No one will recognize me.

Too funny, Dave!

I promise to behave. But obviously, I've got limitations. Vikki

Al has probably had all sorts of strange or odd things said and done when people first meet him. The only thing I've never heard of is someone doing is something like George Bush did to the Prime Minister of Japan and....upchucking on him.

We'll all hope fervently that nobody ever does that (especially not one of us :nervous: , but if it ever happens, Al has a song for it.

No, wait, I take back that fervent-hoping part. Nina will certainly do it, if she hasn't already. But that doesn't mean that any of the rest of us are entitled!

Hey, Sg, I can't view the picture from the link you posted. Is there another way for you to show us that pic? I will join El in saying I haven't embarassed myself in front of Al. I've only met him once, but I was pretty calm. Heck, I even bossed him around, sorta. When I gave him the box with the giant kiss in it, he was trying to show it to Suzanne, then Rachael said "It's a box!" *I thought that was cute*. I said, "Open it!" And of course, he did, right away! lol! And the rest, as they say, is history!

Anyway, keep those stories coming!

I'd have to say the most embarrassing thing I've done really is just embarrassing to me: that I've met Al 5 times, among other things I've gotten his boxers, had him laugh at my Al Van (plastered with concert pics all over it), been complimented by him on a hawaiian shirt I had made and was wearing, and NEVER INTRODUCED MYSELF!! AAAGH!! I know from seeing it first-hand and hearing it from other fans, that Al has a great memory for names and faces, but noooo.. can't tell him my name. *sigh*

The only other embarrassing thing that's happened to me was that my 4 yr-old son Adam decided Al was his new best friend, and wanted to stand there and chat with him about EVERYTHING under the sun, and there's a big line of fans waiting, and I'm forced to practically drag Adam off. Al was very gracious and patient with him, I must say.

That's okay, Shelley. I never told Al my name before, introduced myself just as Cindy at OC, but he still somehow knew to call me by CindyBob. So he probably knows your name anyway. ;)

I've managed to keep pretty composed... well...

My first time meeting Al after a concert I got pretty tongue-tied and just didn't say anything... so he asked me if I enjoyed the show. Then I rediscovered words and was able to say "yes." I think I even managed to say that I thought he was awesome.

One time I saw him walking around the theater before a concert. I was with a group, and Al and Suzanne spotted us and waved... but I ducked behind the rest of the group so he wouldn't see me. Yeah, I know - I am smoothness itself.

I've met him a few times since that, and didn't get too shy, so maybe I'm done with all that.

This is my best Al story, and I don't think I've posted it here yet. In October of 2000 I had tickets to see Al in Morristown, NJ. The concert was just a few days after Al's birthday, so I thought it would be cool to get him a special gift. I'd read the intro he wrote to Mad About TV where he says he used to drag his parents around to used magazine shops to find out of print issues. So, I went on Ebay and I found the October 1959 issue.

After the second show I told Al's stage manager about the gift, and he gave me the OK to stay and wait for Al. Al loved the magazine and he told me his mom had looked for that issue for him, but she couldn't find it. He gave me a nice kiss on the cheek and we had our pic taken together with Al holding up the magazine. It was a really great moment with no embarrassments at all.

I emailed a scan of the pic to the guy I bought the magazine from, along with the story. Needless to say he was delighted it had found a home with Weird Al.
