Your favorite Al concert moments....

What are your favorite concert moments? These can be onstage occurances such as bloopers, pranks, or other bizarre oddities, or perhaps a memorable experience in the audience or before or after the show with fellow fans.



On a personal note, my favorite audience moment was when my dear husband Luke proposed to me (with a little help) during a show at Glen Ellyn, IL in April of 2000.



(pause for collective AWWWWWWWWW)



The Gee-I'm-glad-I-drove-halfway-across-the-country award goes to the Albuquerque show in October of 1999. I drove from Madison, WI to Kansas City and then Luke and I drove to Albuquerque, picked up Marty "Gumby the torsoboy" Lick at the airport, saw the show the next night and then drove all the way back between Wednesday morning and Saturday night. It was well worth it though when the encore lasted a good 45 minutes. And yes, they did the song (almost twice!)



On the RWS tour, I had lots of fun with the 3 amigos coming up with new and interesting light saber routines, as well as XMas attire for TNSWC which at the final show culminated in our whole row wearing Santa Beards and Hats while waving our Xmas lights proudly.



One of my early favorite moments was at an Off the Deep End show in my hometown of Wausau, WI. My best friend Niki and I waited outside the gates all day for the show, listening to all of our Al cassettes on a boombox. We got front row, right up against the crash barrier and right in line with Steve. During "One More Minute," Al jumped off the stage and put a scarf around my neck and sang to me. After the show, we went around by the backstage entrance to see if we could meet Al. We were amazed when Al came over and said "I really don't have time to sign autographs for you all, but I wanted to thank you all for coming to my show." He shook a few of our hands and then he hopped in the bus. (I later heard that he went back to the hotel he was staying at and somehow became a surprise guest at a wedding happening that night. I heard that from hotel staff and a few other people in my hometown.)



These are just some of mine. What are your favorite moments? Is there some defnitive moment that totally contributed to your Al fandom??

It had really nothing to do with the actual performance, but seeing Mongo tackle a couple of stage-crashers at the end of Al's birthday show last year was pretty cool.

I never been to a concert. I only saw a piece on it from the 'Weird Al Yankovic Live in concert' DVD before the DVD died in my DVD player (I borrowed it from a guy that lives the other side of The Netherlands). I saw the song 'Polka Power!' live. That was so far my biggest experience on Weird Al in Concert.

I must say, I have been lucky. TWS was my first Al experience and it was through work.

Our radio station had been promoting one of Als shows. After doing some investigating (thanks to Berms Al site) I had decided it would be an appropriate show for my (then) 10 year old son to attend.

My job was to interview Al, give away tickets, take contest winners backstage for a meet and greet and to introduce the band prior to the show.

Well, I ended up introducing an opener instead....(now, I know that's the norm.)

All in all it was a surprisingly memorable experience. I had seen so many big acts and met so many musicians and suddenly none of them could carry a tune in the presence of this group. I was floored. The energy stayed with me for at least 2 weeks.....and the fondness has yet to leave.

I got to "work" a second show at Great America too. I was a lot more nervous that time. I got to meet Larry Weaver and his girlfriend. Very nice folks! Mongo was great, as usual.

My very last show was Fresno. It was called due to rain. The guys tried so hard to stick with it but it was coming down in sheets. It was a rough night all together. A lot went wrong.

On an up note, from the Fresno show, I met up with a bunch of Al fans I had never met. We shared some wonderful conversation, stories, concert experiences, and some completely non-Al related stuff too! *GASP* LOL!

Though it would seem my reason for going was a "wash", it was a weekend I wouldn't trade for anything. I made some lifetime friends and met some fabulous people!

There is actually so much more to the story. I look forward to the next chapter.

My favorite concert memory?



Well, that would be just being AT my very first "Weird Al" concert.



I remember like it was yesterday. It was Feb 7, 2000 in Akron, OH. We had lousy seats (husband's fault for waiting to get tickets). I remember being excited just being there though. I was so excited I thought I was going to be sick.



When Al came out, I was transfixed! (really) It was the fastest 2 hours of my life. It went by WAY too fast. It was after that concert, I knew I needed MORE. I was rather sad afterwards though, for I knew I'd never see Al again. That turned out to be not so! I got to see Al in concert two more times.



Now, I'm just waiting to see Al and band once again in concert, someday..maybe...hopefully.

My favorite Al concert moment?

That would be my second (and last) Al concert. After seeing WAY Live! for the billionth time, I fully expected Al to wander down the far left aisle of the venue during One More Minute. I attempted for tickets over there, but they were already all sold. (Seems more than one person was thinking the way I was...) But the venue had tenth row seats open on the center aisle. I snapped 'em up.



So guess what Al did during the concert? Yup. He chose to hop down off the stage and go right...down...my...aisle!!!! I was literally frozen in shock. He strolled down the aisle and brushed my arm as he went by.



To this day, I can't listen to One More Minute (particularly the line that Al sang in my direction-"I'd rather rip out my intestines with a fork than watch you going out with other men") without grinning like a lunatic. (Much like the grin I had on during the concert...no wonder I didn't get a scarf. LOL)

Hmm... many of my favorite concert moments probably came from the Columbus, OH show on Feb. 9, 2000. Lots of amusing things that night.



During the TNSWC intro, Al said something like "Well, it's Feb. 9th... only 10 1/2 more months 'til Christmas..."



During LAS, there was a little "goof", and before the start of the song, suddenly you hear the "It's All About the Pentiums, Baby" soundbyte, to which Al replied, "Different song."



Also during LAS, Rubén walked out reading a newspaper, only to casually set it down to reveal his costume.



During the OMM intro, instead of giving the usual monologue, he made reference to a concert that was originally scheduled for August 20, 1999 and got cancelled at the last minute by the promoter, saying "It's nice to actually PLAY in Columbus for a change." To which the audience went nuts. It was GREAT!



Also, before TSB, (who I thought was Rubén) came out and did the usual act... until Rubén walked out, and flipped up the hood, only to reveal Mongo!!



Good memories.

My favorite in concert moment . . .



At the very first Al show I went to, in Albany, NY (feb 4, 2000. I had a front row aisle seat. I went not knowing what to expect aside from an evening of darn fine entertainment. Anyway, not only did Al sing my favorite song of his (One More Minute), but he sang the "shards of broken glass" verse on my lap. He just stole my heart away. I didn't even know he put a scarf around my neck until halfway through the next song. The whole show was so much more than I expected -- it was a life-changing epiphany. In the 2 months following that show I bought all his CDs (didn't have any before) and made it my goal to meet him before year's end.



I had to wait 8 months, but I finally got to see him again in Madison, WI. I had the pleasure of meeting many hard core Al fans there, and Al graced us with an autograph line outside after the show. So, I achieved my goal, and got a hug and an autograph on my OMM scarf. It was a grand night.



There's more, but I'll save it for another time.

I wish I could meet Weird Al Yankovic one day.. Maybe next year if I have enough money for coming to USA (or if he ever comes to The Netherlands).



Well, so far I already have contact with Bermuda. So, that's also a great experience
