Al on The Wayne Brady Show

Is AL-TV returning or did you find a nice interview? Just tell the folks here.

Well, I stayed up to watch the show last night. Not on purpose mind you, but because my stupid neighbor was playing her damn rap music too loud...at 1:00 AM....again!

Anyway, here are my thoughts -

The performance was excellent! I especially loved the very end when Al just went nuts in front of that one lady! I thought that woman was gonna have a seizure or something! That was awesome! Also, OE's reaction to Al's "Am I making this perfectly clear?" was classic! They could have showed a couple close-ups of the band members, though.

Wayne seemed to really enjoy the song, as did the audience. That was a good choice. BTW, the girl who he sang "...do you mind if I chew on your butt" to was smokin' hot! I wouldn't mind chewin' on her butt myself! :P Dr. Dad, I'd like to see a screen grab of her, please! :D

The interview was good, but why was Al so spazy! It was like he was on drugs or something. I kept thinking in my head, "Calm down!!" I think this was the first time in an interview that Al has mentioned his marriage and child, isn't it?

Wayne was a very nice host and occasionally funny, but I can definately see why this show is being canned. I love Wayne on Whose Line, but this show is terrible! Who in the world wants to watch a guy wash a dog on TV? Hello! That woman boxer was lame. Wayne's monologue was about how his eye got inflamed!!!??? Wayne, you really need to tune in to Letterman or O'Brian some day! Sadly, after this show ends, I predict Wayne will drift into obscurity. There's no way that a black comedian can compete with the likes of Bernie Mac, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, and Dave Chappelle when he makes a day time talk show geared primarily at middle-aged women. Sorry to say it, but it's true. The show stunk (other than the Al part, of course!).

Al has mentioned Suzanne & Nina (not by name) in print interviews and radio interviews, and you can tell in some print articles that their presence was part of the background information provided.

Yes, Al was being consciously Weird there. Maybe he figures that since his TV appearances are so infrequent, he needs to fit in as much wackiness as possible.

I don't think Wayne will drift into obscurity, but he will have kind of a challenge finding a job that really fits his talents. He's almost in the same bind that Al is-- how do you showcase both musical and comedic talents? And Al's already nailed down his niche.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I haven't seen this show, but Al does crank up the Wackiness Factor when he appears professionally in public. If you doubt that, just check out the red/green carpet photos of him at wireimage.com. I guess that's one of the reasons it took me so long to become a fan. I adore him now, and can tolerate the ocassional "Weird Al" attack, but if that's all I knew of him, I wouldn't be looking to see him in a live show anytime soon.

I thought he was acting kinda silly, but not annoyingly so. I liked the show. You will, too, Bobbi.

4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Patti, my cable company doesn't carry Wayne's show, so I haven't seen it either. Bleh.

 Ryan Styles. I'm not sure he's up to the talk show life since he hates planes and such.

How odd. Al switched from a younger black male, to a older and much taller white man. ;)

Ditto.
He might feel the wackiness in public is expected of him, and it probably is expected by his younger fans.
