Happy 30th Anniversary Al & Bermuda!

We all know the story. On September 14, 1980, Al was live on The Dr. Demento Show to debut his new parody "Another One Rides The Bus." Also at the show that day was Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz who was there because he had submitted a few homemade tapes to Dr. Demento several years earlier. Since Bermuda was a drummer, Al recruited him to drum along on Al's accordion case, and the rest is history!

Happy 30th anniversary Al & Bermuda!!!

How many partnerships, in ANY business, or even any walk of life, last thirty frickin years? That's longer than many of Al's current fans (myself included) have been ALIVE. Three years longer than Hendrix's or Cobain's ENTIRE EXISTENCE ON THE PLANET. And not just thirty years - thirty UNINTERRUPTED years! To my knowledge, Al has NEVER had a different drummer on ANYTHING!

And it all started with some loud banging on an accordion case. Neat!

Well, except for when Jon was ill on tour and Pete Gallagher had to fill in for him. But Jon never left the tour, he still sang his vocal parts, so I don't think that breaks his streak.

Thirty years of successful, no-drama collaboration is a tremendous testament to the musicianship and the character of both Al and Jon. May they continue for as long as they enjoy doing it... and may they enjoy doing it for many more years.
