I heard Al talking about this on episode 23 of Comedy Death Ray-Radio and I had to look it up.

This is pretty hilarious, especially at 1:45.

So, to review:
Victoria Principal and Doug Barr = Known.
"Weird Al" Yankovic = Not-So-Known.
Sad but true. Al is STILL trying in vain to achieve the levels of fame afforded to Victoria Principal and Doug Barr. And really, how indeed can the lowly "My Bologna" guy hope to compete for cultural relevance with Lee Majors' sidekick from The Fall Guy and the first of two actresses who played Pamela on Dallas? I totally didn't even IMDB and Wikipedia that info, that's how KNOWN they are! You think they're celebrities now, back in 1984 they were so popular and important their very image gave off a blinding light that made it necessary to put their names on the screen, just so you'd KNOW you were looking at famous people and not simply the face of God. Al didn't need his name on the screen because he wore colorful shirts and was therefore obscure and beneath mention. Does Al even HAVE a name, come to think of it? He's not Victoria Bloody Principal OR Doug Frakkin' Barr, so who knows and who cares? Principal, in particular, was SO cosmically ubiquitous that the television had to deliberately MISSPELL HER NAME and call her "Victoria Principle" just so they wouldn't break copyright law. That's right, she copyrighted her own NAME she was so famous. Even today, a quarter-century later, everyone and their bleeding grandmother knows of the tabloid exploits of Vicky and Dougie, recounting their "have you heard the latest about V-Prince?" and "How is Dougie-B gonna overcome THIS one?" stories at dinner tables and water coolers across this great land of ours. Remember when Doug broke his arm, and the entire country stopped everything to watch CNN around the clock for updates? And remember when traffic screeched to a halt in Times Square, as everyone gathered with candles praying for news of the welfare of Victoria's favorite cat? We've all grown up hearing about them so much, I for one feel they're both a part of me, you know? And meanwhile, our beloved accordion-playing parody songsmith must scrounge about in the sewers for loose bits of corn. It's sad, I know, but icons like Victoria Barr and Doug Principale only come around once every thousand years or so, and when you think about it, we're lucky to even be ALIVE at the same time and in the same space-time continuum as not one, but TWO Zeus-like superstars of such awesome, unfathomable magnitude.
How lucky we are, indeed.
