If you think this song is a downer, stop listening to Weird Al. You have no sense of humor.

This doesn't depress me because I'm not a theater major.
It is, admittedly one of Al's subtler-humor songs where the humor comes from the recognition of human nature. I think very highly of it; very acutely observed! And the music is just insanely catchy.

Hmm Nobody died.. nobody had all their hair shaved off.. nobody got gagged and entombed in a plastic bag, no nuclear incident...
Some guy was mildly pissed off about his level of job satisfaction (but not enough to go find a different job) and wistfully looks back over might-have-beens and if-onlys, which considering his lack of motivation were probably unattainable anyway...
I dont get what people's problem is with this, are people so addicted to the upbeat go-getem message of most of the media that they can't handle reality anymore?
I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. Well... apparently THAT'S not gonna happen now! #firstdraftmovies

Oh, I voted feel-good as well. It's so darn catchy and upbeat, the fact that Skipper Dan complains about how his life could have turned out doesn't really distract from that. He seems to be making the best of his current situation. Yeah, he's not completely happy with it, but he's muddling through. It's not depressingly negative. *I just made up that term* LOL!

I think it's lyrically kinda sorta depressing, but the clash of the lyrics and the happy music is funny.
As a whole it's...the funfeelgood thing.

I voted happy, but I do enjoy depressing music (My favourite non-Al song is Misery by Soul Asylum and that cheers me up)

I have a sense of humor! I just made this because I wanted to see if OTHERS liked the music as "insanely catchy" {which it is}, the lyrics a bit melancholy, or both. Myself, I really can't pick...

Personally I think Dan is a bit of a brat.. Lots of people would love his job. I dont feel sorry for him at all. What's to stop him looking for another job anyway?.. He likes the security of getting the rent paid. so he's not *that* unhappy LOL
