This album has marked a very big change in the way Al promotes his music. Almost every album up until PH had two corresponding videos, most of which were live action. Now, he's done just one live-action video, and has hired a plethora of other people to animate most of the other songs on the album.
So my question is what will the future be like for Al's videos? Will he ever return to the two live-action videos pattern? Or are these animation extravaganzas here to stay?
Al seems to be a big fan of animation, so I'd imagine it would be as much fun for him to try to find new animators to do his videos as it is to find artists to parody. So my guess is that he'll keep up with the animated video thing.
I love having all these videos, but I still kinda wish we'd get another live action one. And I'd gladly trade a few of the animated videos (WSD, P, and DDTS) for one.
Thoughts?

Maybe there should be a white about the music videos thread?
I'm kind of in the same boat with you though. I'd like to see a few more live action videos, even if they're low budget and cause a ruckuss like Bob. But with a gigantic tour just starting out, it doesn't seem likely. I'm just happy to get Al videos period though, so there won't be too much complaining on my part.

I would have really liked to see a Canadian Idiot live action video. Let's face it - the animated videos are generally decent but they simply don't allow for the kind of visual gags and artist parody that Al has come to be known for.
I'm hoping that this whole thing is occurring as a reaction to what happened with Poodle Hat and soon Al will return to his old ways of two live action videos per album. This album happened to coincide with the height of the YouTube/viral video phenomenon so Al was merely taking advantage of that. Hopefully he has enough clout with his label to make two big budget videos next time around.

As long as they're inexpensive to make and Al can find good animators (emphasis on good), I think we'll see more animated videos in the future.
On the other hand, I don't know if we'll see more than one live action video for future ALbums. I think the only way we'll get two for an ALbum again is if a parody other than the lead one has potential to be a big hit.

I don't know, for Poodle Hat I would have loved to see a video for Trash Day, and for SOL, I would have paid to see a live action video for Canadian Idiot...but I guess that's out.

well...i see the thing in this way: al did an live action video... then he can't do another one (maybe time problems...) so he can do a lot of animated videos without problems!!
I'll think that in the next album he'll do another live action video...and if he will be alble to do another one videos he 'll do that.... and than some aniamte videos....

To be honest, I think Al should be writing and recording parodies with the idea of videos in mind. Not necessarily every song, but I think at least a couple parodies per album should be quality enough to support radio play and warrant a live action video.

Especially with YouTube being so huge, I'd say that the more live-action videos, the better. I could actually understand why he didn't feel a need to do one for PH besides "Bob," if he couldn't do "Couch Potato" and didn't have a burning desire for any of the other parodies to have videos, since there wasn't really much of an outlet for them to be played.
The "White and Nerdy" video on YouTube was almost definitely the #1 source of promotion for SOL. If there'd been another, for "Canadian Idiot," that's even more hype and word-of-mouth promotion.

It will be super sweet if the next album has two live-action videos and a few animated ones for the albums alternate side.
