Sept 14 Vancouver, BC River Rock Casino

My favorite concert of all time was a Canadian show [admittedly a special show, Al's 40th birthday], in Ottawa. I might try to get to this one in Vancouver; it's a Friday but I'd only need one day off from work and there aren't any time zone changes involved....

Cheers, Diva
who just loves Canadians :w

WOW :o Nan!

Long time no hear from!

Ya know, Orange County would be a bit closer on the distance scale. Think you might make it to the OC?

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have 2 tickets for this one? I just went to buy mine and apparently they're sold out. I was hoping to drive up from Seattle to see this show.

It's been a bit coming, but here's my first (and hopefully never my last) concert review ever! :wh00t:

The concert. Was. Fan. :blur: ing. TASTIC!!! We got there an hour early on the dot, just in time to be first in line for merch! I now have the White & Nerdy hoodie, the toque (which I think I'll give to my brother who would have loved to go) and the "Weird Al is my Homeboy" shirt, in yellow. :D. I also got to chat with my first ever ENTIRE GROUP of devoted Weird Al fans!! I tried to be subtle about directing them to WOWAY, but I don't think the subtle part worked. :P

The casino staff really did not like us even carrying the petition clipboard around, so we put it back in the vehicle. Commies. :-/ There was no opening band, just the casino official stepped onstage and plugged gambling and throwing money at the casino. During her spiel, half the crowd starting chanting for Al. I don't think she was too happy to hear that. :P Some guy from a local radio station came out too, but he got it even worse, poor guy.

When Fun Zone started playing, I think I shat myself. Everyone went psycho. And that's when I knew he would not even come close to disappointing.
The clips were hilarious, Al was hilarious, and everyone was having fun.

Seeing as most people who are still reading this have read an Al concert review or two, I'll skip to the good stuff.

"Should I go ahead, and propose, and get hitched
And have kids with eleven toes,
And move to Manitoba where that kinda thing is tolerated?"

"I finally realised my lifelong dream... that's right I got a part time job at Tim Hortons!"

The Paris Hilton reference in "Headline News"

The Bob and Doug MacKenzie reference in Canadian Idiot. Priceless!! :D

I think I was the only person who could sort of sing along to the Yoda Chant. The stiff beside me was trying to edge as far away from me in his seat he could. Some people just can't take displays of enthusiasm, y'know?

We had to make a mad dash to the vehicle after the show, get the petition, dash back, and try to get signatures as fast as we could before the authorities caught us in the crowd. FUN. When it was cleared out, we made it to the tour bus to be nerdcore with the other elite fans.

Waiting was fun, believe it or not. It was slight;y chilly, but we had our brand spanking new hoodies to wear, and new friends to talk to. I only wish I hadn't of lost their email adresses. *kicks herself*

We did manage to meet Steve (I nearly missed trying to shake his hand, i was so star-struck :P ), Jim, and Rubèn (absolutely hilarious to talk to). I got the three of them to sign my t-shirt, which I then vowed to never wear or wash.

And then we waited for Al. And waited.

Just as we gave up, around 1 a.m., we were walking back to the car, when we passed a guy that looked a lot like Jon, but we weren't sure. On hindsight, I'm pretty sure it was (Sorry Bermuda!!! :-( ), but maybe it was better we didn't stop him. He looked oh-so-tired.

We didn't get to meet Al, but hey, we met three more band members than I expected (and two less than I hoped for.) Plus he was maybe six feet from me at one point in WBUL. *fangirl sigh*

God, it was fantastic. Casual fans left as nerdcores, skeptics left as fans. And I left a very happy camper. ^_^

This was my 2nd ever Weird Al gig (the 1st being 2 days earlier in Puallup). I much prefered this venue though, as it was more loud, intimate and more comfy seats

I also happy to get some teeshirts this time, as there weren't any on sale at the Puallup Fair. At least not when i looked anyway. I got there early to make sure i got some of the merchandise incase they sold out of them or something. I can't find Weird Al teeshirts here in England, so it was great to get some.

As i had already seen the show a couple of days earlier, there wasn't as many suprises, but it was still great. Especially the lyric changes that Carol mentioned. It was so fun. The sound was really impressive, and it was still really, really funny.

Oh, and can't get enough of Albuquerque live. Great stuff!
