I heard that on at least one occasion, Al cranked out "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" during a concert... was anyone there? How much of it did he do?

I'm not positive, as I wasn't there, but I think it was during the Albuquerque concert when Al kept "teasing" the audience making them think he was going to play Albuquerque. I'm not sure how much of it he played though, but I would guess the whole thing.

It was part of a polka medley, so it was only a portion of the song.

It was performed (though I have no idea to what extent) at the now-legendary Albuquerque show, but it was also part of one of the polkas. So in effect, Kristine is just as right as Barney Slayer.

I have a feeling you're right, Grom, but I also think that if it was part of that Albuquerque show that he did not play the entire song, because he did play Albuquerque in it's entirety. I think playing a 15 minute long song, followed by an 11 minute 22 second song would be a bit much, even for Al.

Maybe he played the radio edit?

We should ask someone who was at the most recent AlCon, where I believe Jon shared the video of the entire performance fading out right as they actually started playing the song.

I was at that AlCon, but I don't remember seeing a clip of Al and TBITB playing that song. I remember seeing Close to You, the fake Albuquerque song, something rather silly called "Angela", and Wipeout played in four keys. So, he didn't play all the songs leading up to Albuquerque.

Back before Al and the Band were huge-huge. A lot of their earlier venues were at bars and clubs and those types of places. Unlike now, where you can't really stumble into a Weird Al show, back then they probably had a lot of people there that didn't necessarily come to hear them play. So it makes since that occasionally back then they would throw in a Sweet Home Alabama or In a gadda da vida. Just to break the ice with new viewers.
