UHF - Hard to find?

I just found this forum last night, so if this has been addressed, I apologize
I have been having a tough time finding anyone in my local area who can/will order "UHF". I know it's on the net, but unfortunately I don't have a credit card so that's not an option for me. I am currently waiting for a phone call from Blockbuster to see if they can get it.
Is it generally hard to find or am I just in a podunk town?

youre from oregon? probably is a podunk town. do you have a borders in your area? i work for them (trust me, its not a shameless plug, they suck ass) but they should be able to order it for you, i wold recomend checking one of their in store computers for it rather than ask. or you might want to try a suncoast pictures (if you have one out there) other than that, i would say get a credit card.

well, I had the hardest time finding UHF in Canada until one day I stepped foot in a mall, it was no ordinary mall and I came across a store that said they had... prepare for excitement and enthusiasm... 1 copy!! I then raced and snatched it up from an old woman looking at it for a birthday present for her pet weasle. I then ran out of the store clutching it in my hands only to realise I hadn't purchased it. Alas, I was escorted into the store where the transaction had been made and purchased it. Then, I was able to run out and scream happily I finally found the movie.
What a nice story to tell your kids some day.
Oh yeah, MGM isn't being very generous with shipments of UHF..

Yep... too podunk. We don't have a Borders or Suncoast. But I will not be deterred.

Scotti, I have a simple solution to your problem. Just log on to Ebay and type in the Search window "Weird Al UHF DVD". You'll get about 15 to 20 online sales of UHF, all factory sealed, ranging between $8.99 to $15.99 [average $9.99]. Sure, you have to pay shipping and handling [about $3 or $4] -- but NO sales tax!! And if you're lucky, you might snag a copy for under 5 bucks! Best of all, you DON'T need a credit card; just offer to pay the full amount with a money order [available at many grocery stores and all US post offices for a fee of less than a dollar]. All of my Ebay purchases were with M.O.s [including my UHF DVD!], and I've yet to find a seller who'll refuse one. Happy hunting! And enjoy the DVD once you get it -- it is worth EVERY PENNY [even if you've seen it on VHS]!!

Every time I walk into a store that sells DVDs I look for UHF. I haven't found ONE copy yet! I think the demand for this DVD is underestimated by retailers. I already have one copy, but I'd buy another or 2 if I saw it anywhere.

It's not
that bleak at the stores around me, but I do know what you mean. With the exception of the one Suncoast by me that has a really hip manager and put "UHF" in their front "featured" section, you have to do some real searching to find it in a store.
But I guess that was expected. I mean, as far as most retailers are concerned, it's just an MGM catalog title. Most likely the more music and cult movie-centered chains (as I mentioned, Suncoast, or maybe even Borders....or if you're lucky enough to find an FYE that still has a pulse to it) would be able to point it out to you in a heartbeat.
"UHF" seems to be unique in that a lot of the vibe is coming off the Internet. And I don't just mean us. A lot of DVD forums, mailing lists, and web sites were eagerly awaiting the release. And it looks like most of those same folks had pre-ordered the disc on one web site or another. I don't know exactly what point I'm trying to make....maybe that the DVD became a hit without being a brick-and-mortar retail hit.
Someone sent me an e-mail last week wondering if the "UHF" DVD has gone Gold yet. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? I rarely hear of Gold or Platinum applying to movies, and Billboard and the RIAA offers little to no help.
What
I'm personally wondering is if the DVD is affecting sales of the soundtrack.

Well, the demand of UHF dvd's are controlled by the suppliers themselves. You certainly see a bazillion B182 Urethra Chronicles II in stores but hardly any UHF dvd's. Most likely this is because Weird Al's UHF was a flop and that's the way most people will think of it. The suppliers most likely saw the film when it came out in theatres (don't ask me how) and remember it as a flop. Probably that reflects into what they supply.
Kinda interesting..

well i know that suncoast ran a small promotion over the movie, even featuring it in one of their reviews in request magazine, out of all the more popular movies coming out around the same time.
