Milwaukee Show...Dissapointment?

Post by weezer17 »

Hello, this is my first post, and I wanted to give my opinion of the Milwaukee Summerfest show. Al and the band were great, but there were many technical difficulties with the TVs. Half the time, when they were supposed to be on, they couldnt get them on. One time, they showed the beginning of the Smells Like Nirvana video way before it was played in the show. When Al would leave for a costume change, the tvs took almost a minute to come on. Then the biggest disappointment came. They played the opening of Melanie (Pre-recorded), and then stopped. The song was not played in the show. Due to the late time of the show, 11PM they cut the set list short, based on looking at setlists from other shows. No Dog Eat Dog, No Melanie, No Springer (We got that in a medley) If anyone else has any thoughts on the show, post them here.

I think they did amazing things with the time they had. I don't blame the band at all. He crammed more songs into an hour and a half than I thought possible. I'm glad they skipped "Melanie," never one of my favorites, but I was itching to hear "Dog Eat Dog." Great show, for the time they were allowed to perform.

It just makes me want to go to Chicago and see a full show!

Well Just to let you know Jerry Springer is only part of the medley now - so on that note you didn't miss anything. Melaine miss cued at All 3 shows I saw (it's backing vocals since TBITB don't all sing). Sorry to hear about the cuts in the show. Konocti was also cut short because of horrible wind conditions. Whe i spoke with Jon after the SLO Town show he said the most of the crew was new so that that is probably why the cues are messing up. Why did the show start so late?

The show started late because of fireworks at 10:30. They started playing right after the fireworks though, which was at 10:45 or so. And so I guess only about 4 or 5 songs were cut, the concert was about an hour and 40 min. So I guess they made the best of the situation.

The long breaks were kind of annoying, and playing the wrong clips at certain times were bad too. I wonder if its always like this when Al plays Summerfest?

The Melanie thing kind of made me upset, because of the pre-redorded part. Aslo because they didn't even play it. That makes the performance look a tad bit unprofessional. All though I did have a great time, and I am sure the problems can be attributed to the venue. And once it got past that part the concert really did Polka!.

Especially the Medley, that was the best part. And I finally got to see Al on the Simpsons since I missed all the showings of it on TV.

Another good thing was that the interviews seem to be funnier when you are surrounded by people who have had quite a few beers in them. All though I don't drink, Comedy is better when other people are laughing.

I still had a great time at the concert, and its much cheaper then going to a normal concert. All though the view conditions were less then ideal.

I went to the Milwaukee show in 2000. I'm sure you all heard the story; thunderstorms, wind, rain, tornados, soaking wet crowds. I decided I wouldn't go back there again. In fact, no more GA crowds for me!

Trust me, you want the backing vocals pre-recorded. i certainly don't want to hear Jon or Ruben try to sing  . Just because there are some recorded backing vocals shouldn't ruin a show for you. Al is always Live same with all the instruments. Al just wants the backing vocals to sound as good as possible. The missed cues suck. I hope the people running them get it together. I understand that there are some tricky cues, but they haven't been right yet. Will you get a chance to see another show?

I still had a great time at the show, but I am more looking forward to another show in Chicago, either at Navy Pier, or Rockford. Anyone else going to these?

I'm definitely with you on that. It's assigned seating or bust. A drunk girl was standing on the benches near me, got pushed over, and spilled an entire cup of wine directly on my head.

Also, during the show, some guy started punching people. So what did security do? They brought him up front, threatened to throw him out, and then left him standing there in front of us. Yeah, he got front and center view because he was being a jerk to others. Nice.

I'm going to Chicago, also knowing a lot of hardcore Al fans will be at Chicago too.

That sucks, Happy Steve. Sometimes you just wish people could be nice and such, but nope. Oh well.
