World of Weird Al Yankovic

OK, maybe some other fans (or Bermuda) can help me out here. I had a blast at my only Al concert so far here in Denver in '99. My only complaint was the sound. I wonder who sets up levels and such. Does it differ from venue to venue? Did anyone else experience bad sound?

The problem was mainly that it was turned up WAY too loud. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I love it loud but there's a point where the speakers start to clip or distort and it just sounds bad. I couldn't hear for three days after that show! I was pretty close to the stage and off to stage right so I was pretty much right in front of the speakers, guess I should just try extra hard to get center section this time.

I would still never trade that memory of my first Al concert! I cherish it! Even though it was hard to make out the lyrics (I was not on the internet yet so I was unaware of the album release until I got there and heard the new songs).

Anyone else had similar experiences?

P.S. The show was in Denver, CO at the Buell Theater

I've only been to concerts in PA so far, but I can tell you I haven't experienced any sound problems.

It might be the venue. I'm not sure. The one here was good with sound and the OC shows were wonderful with the sound.

Red Bank, NJ and Wildwood, NJ were the only venues I've been at with really bad sound. Wildwood was so bad, that I passed on subsequent concerts there, even when they fell on my birthday. I'm not sure if I'd go to Red Bank again, I guess it would depend on the ticket price.



But, if the sound's bad, yeah, blame the venue. And you might want to consider seeing the show at a different venue this time if that's an option.

In defense of the Denver show on October 9th, 1999, Al's voice was shot from doing a lengthy encore including screaming out a 16+ minute version of Albuquerque the night before. I'm sure there was a lot of extra sound coordination because of his voice that night.



As for other shows, sometimes the room can adversely affect the sound. In Wildwood for example, that's basically a square room with concrete walls. I can understand that the sound might be a little harsh.

How can you possibly remember every venue?? Speaking of being in the presence of mental giants...

I have been to more al shows than i care to count and have never run into bad sound except in merriville indiana where al's voice for its all about the pentums diddent come in till about the middle of the song.....

that always kinda ticked me off.... anyway other than that the sound has been ok at every venue that ive been to!!!!!

Actually...Last years Al shows at the OC Fair had some sound problems. The very back bleacher seats. I heard a lot of complaints that the sound was distorted back there...but like I care? I was in the second row...Oh I'm so mean. But I think that was the venues problem. It is usually set up for bucking broncos and rodeo stuff. I don't think the speakers were used to polkas.

Yah mmm i diddent sit anywhere past row 7 I think...... I can garentee that though! might have been like row 8. At any rate the sound was excelent where I was and by friday night my hearing was so gone that I actualy cought myself lookng over at the lady signing al's songs heh seriously she was a good sport and did well even on Jerry Springer!

Yeah anyone sitting on the floor section had good sound. It was in the bleacher section in the back under the awning where the sound got distorted. I LOVED THE SIGNER!! She was incredibly nice, and She was a good sport, I had fun watching her also.
