That's probably because it had to be completely rewritten because the original version was deemed horrible. Also, Chris Farley was originally cast as Shrek.
Would've been a different Shrek, for sure.
Dude could've played the live action Shrek fine though.

You know, I never really understood what Al did to make Prince hate him so much. Does the very suggestion of playing with his music put him into some kind of deep rage? I know Al approached him multiple times.

I don't think Prince hates Al specifically, I think he's just all-purpose quirky and protective of his stuff.

That still doesn't explain why he'd tell Al not to establish eye contact during the awards ceremony. I also recall from before that he had an Al lookalike beat up or something in one of his videos.

Prince treats just about everyone this way. It's really never been about Al.
Look it up. He and his people have pulled down covers of his songs on YouTube (Everyone from well known artists to amatuers looking for a name for themselves). He says he feels covers (And by extension parody) are erasing the originals from music history (Of course, he turns around and does covers all the time).
Even the artists he's helped get into the industry aren't safe from this: Sinead O'Conner got into a fistfight with him (Worst. Fistfight. Ever.), and one of his biggest hits, Kiss, was a song he gave to another band, and when they went to record it, Prince was in the studio recording his own version "because he felt like it".
In short (HA!), the guy's a craphole. And it wouldn't shock me one bit if he had the same "No contact" order given to every artist at an award show he felt wasn't on his level.

Prince also sued his fans for creating a Prince tribute album once.
He's just a douche with unwarranted self-importance syndrome, not much else to say.

I think it's a mix of both: Prince is a quirky, eccentric guy AND he's a craphole. As far as the "eye-contact" thing, I kind of doubt he singled Al out. Wouldn't surprise me if everyone who was going to be in his vicinity got a similar telegram. I know a guy who worked on a Martin Lawrence movie as a PA and he said he was told NEVER to make eye-contact with Lawrence. So I think that might be some weirdo eccentric celebrity ego thing.
And yes, Prince did have an Al lookalike in his "Partyman" video with an exploding cigar:

That just shows me he's a craphole, too. He has no problem dishing it out but can't take it.

In all fairness, the "Partyman" video was shot after the release of the "UHF" video, so Prince was probably just responding to Al dressing up like him.
