Important Al Interviews/reviews.

Is AL-TV returning or did you find a nice interview? Just tell the folks here.

I was thinking Al would make a correction if it was wrong... but it's a little bit early to assume that. This is the only interview where a summer release is even alluded to, and I'd imagine the online media would be gravitating to this like crazy by now if it were true. (Of course, you should all remember the false "Lady Gaga" parody rumors from before)

If it were true wouldn't Al be making a bit more noise about it? Or making any noise at all? I'm not saying that it's impossible, but if I don't see any further mention of this relatively soon I'm just gonna say it was an ambitious guess.

I'd go with ambitious guess too. I suspect that the summer interval between the spring and fall legs of the tour this year is planned as Hawaii time. Although if something REALLY big breaks over the summer, nothing would prevent Al from writing a song in Hawaii and then flying back for a week or so to rehearse & record it. But I'd guess that "in time for Christmas shopping" is a more realistic time frame for the album.

On the plus side, Al took a long time waiting on the right song for OTDE and that ended up being one of his best albums ever.

Very nice. Wonder if the interviewer realizes that Nina is already eight years old? Or is a man with an eight year old daughter still a "new father?"

More Al love from Nathan Rabin's "Then That's What They Called Music!" column in the AV Club.
Like “Put On,” “Whatever You Like” came out in the depths of the recession (“Put On” is actually a single from Young Jeezy’s album The Recession), so its glitzy talk of shopping sprees and glamorous vacations registered as unabashed escapism to most listeners. T.I. slips into sugar-daddy mode as he promises the world and more to the woman willing to wait out his habitual prison stints to be with him. It’s R&B ear candy from a rapper with the street credibility and rap sheet to get away with making a blatant pop song for the ladies.

“Weird Al” Yankovic captured the national mood more acutely when he released a parody of the same name while T.I.’s single was still riding high on the charts. Yankovic begins by acknowledging that “our economy’s in the toilet” before promising such cut-rate luxuries as tater tots, Cold Duck on ice, and all-night coupon-clipping marathons. Yankovic’s take on the song isn’t just a parody; it’s a corrective. T.I. gives listeners a giddy fantasy where Yankovic conveys a satirical truth about the grim economic realities of the day. In that respect, it echoes Jay-Z and Kanye West’s antithetical versions of “’02 Bonnie And Clyde.”
