Al keeps every fan letter he gets, and he does respond, although it's not always personally. I sent a fan letter, and the friendly helper bees at CPFOA sent me a form letter, an autographed pic, and an order form for merchandise. It took about 8 months or so. *Remember the glacier he mentions on the site, crazygurl? It's true.* I did get a thank you note directly from him when I sent him and Suzanne a wedding gift. I treasure that card. Don't assume that he doesn't care. He does.

I've gotten personal replies before.

How did I know they were personal, you ask?

Well what automated response uses swear words to describe a rocky acting career?

What?? Who gave you a personal response like that, Lilac? Doesn't sound like you're talking about our boy.

:oo No! I'd be very shocked if it was!

I can't even remember, but he used to be on a very popular kids tv show over here in the UK. I liked his acting style and sent him a message and was inundated with personal photographs (?!) and a nicely typed letter. Except for the swearing. This was ages ago, but since then I've also sent and received emails which also were quite unprofessional. Next time I should choose my heroes carefully!

I've sent several things...letters and cards, but I haven't gotten anything back...ever. I don't mind though. I know Al is a busy person and appreciates everything he gets.

I had a feeling it was someone else. Whew! Thanks for explaining. I still have my autographed pic from CPFOA on the fridge, along with many other pics of Al. I have the world's most beautiful fridge! hehe!

crazygurl, you'll get something back. I tried sending another letter after the first one, because I thought the same thing. I thought he forgot about me. I wound up getting another form letter and an order form, but no pic, probably about a year later! That glacier was moving real slow! I did send a SASE first time out. Didn't the second time. I wa so excited when I heard back that first time, even though it wasn't from Al personally. Just the thought that someone cared enough to give me something back made my day.

From Ask Al...

First of all, it takes me a very long time to actually get around to reading fan mail - but I treasure every letter. I've never thrown one away. I have boxes and boxes of them stored away at my parents' house.

He may take a while to respond, but he certainly doesn't ignore your letter. And I've never heard of anyone getting an auto-response.

*raises hand*

I did. It was from CPFOA, and it was sweet of them to reply.

I started writing Al a letter WAY back when I joined you fine people..but never actually got around to finishing (or sending it)...a little too embarassed, perhaps, and come to think of it, it was probably full of hyperactive 16 year old ramblings, so maybe it's better that letter doesn't see daylight...

Honestly, I think I'll wait for some sort of occasion to send something...wish I had sent Al and Suzanne a wedding card, but I was a bit too self absorbed at the time to be that thoughtful..:S..It's not that I wouldn't write Al a letter: I love to write, and there's certainly lots of things that I would like to say to him...but on the other hand, although I know the letter would be appreciated, I wouldn't want to be bothersome...is that too cheesy? I don't need all the 'attention' from the CPFOA people...I think it's because Al's not some superficial "you'd never get three words out of him in person anyway" sort of celebrity, and knowing that just meeting him in person once can leave him remembering your name...it just seems superficial, unless you have a purpose, to write a letter...

And, of course, you never know when Al will end up reading his AL-colades right on this here forum...:D
