Didn"t The Greatful Dead encourage fan bootlegs?

Yeah.

There's a lot of well known bands that do it now, too. Some more official (As in have made statements about it) than others

And before anyone asks: No, Al doesn't have a wink wink under the table policy as far as we know. So no, WOWAY's policy on bootlegs hasn't change :)

Smashing Pumpkins did this for their latest tour, and even did a box set with every show for $400...so if anyone wants to buy me an awesome early birthday gift...

I'm not 100% familiar with the Grateful Dead, but SP and Pearl Jam both change their sets from night to night for the most part (although obviously a few songs get played practically every show), which Al really doesn't do...I'd be content with a stopgap live album release that took a few songs from each era. I don't think a live album would be as unnecessary as Al seems to think, although obviously a DVD would be preferable considering how visual his shows are.

The live "Wanna B Ur Lovr" not being on DVD is an injustice that must be fixed :inlove:

ETA: Who will dare to break this streak of mod posts?

I wouldn't really mind either one, but obviously a DVD would be better. But I would still love to have a professional recording of Albuquerque live, video or audio.

Why not a live DVD/CD combo...Alice Cooper does a lot of those and they're always awesome. :P
