Well, I went on priceline.com today and, assuming this would take place on a weekend, I looked up the price for a round-trip ticket from Roanoke, VA to LAX on the first weekend within the timeframe Vikki gave. If I booked it now it would be $575, which isn't bad. My flight would leave at 5:50am Va time and I'd get to LAX at around noon (I think) LA time so I'd be there in time to help Vikki out. My flight wouldn't leave until after 10pm LA time on Sunday so I could stick around and help with clean-up too. I wouldn't get home until after 10am Va time on Monday so I'd defintely have to have Monday off too.

For those on a budget, which is pretty much everyone, I have some ideas. Once everything is set up as far as date and place, those of us who are coming alone or with one other person could share rooms and split the cost plus it'll give folks more of a chance to hang out together. As far as food, most hotels have kitchenettes so maybe the people from one or two rooms can go together and pick up a few groceries for the weekend for themselves. It doesn't have to be anything fancy and those Stouffer's family size meals can feed up to six I think. We could have one "special night" where we get together and go out to eat and then eat in our rooms the rest of the time.

Just some ideas I thought I'd throw out there.

Ambra, keep looking. The price will go down in a few months. And I would check out of DC or Charlotte if you want to get cheaper flights too.

But my real reason for posting is - Is Alapalooza really off-limits? I think that could be a great festival name.

My two biggest concerns are transportation and place to stay. I can probably get a hotel near the place, but if there are plans to carpool, I'm all for it. I'm hoping to bring Emma with me (eicarlson92), provided we can both afford it, but I will probably be on the West coast that time of year anyways...
I'd like to see more of this develop before I buy a plane ticket or anything...

Actually, I like that. It follows the ComiCon pattern, but not too closely. And there's no doubt who it's intended to celebrate. (note: anybody suggesting "YankovichCon" will be taken out behind the barn and shot)

Comic-Con uses two C's.

You know, I have always wanted the name for this to be Alapalooza (in fact, that is what I call it when I'm talking or thinking about it), but I just assumed I wouldn't be allowed to use the name. But hey, it doesn't hurt to ask, right? I'll shoot a message to Jay Levey and see what he says.
