It doesn't matter about success. Musical guests rarely get to talk. That's just how talk shows are.

I know we want all Al all the time, but things just don't work that way. Let's not put anyone down while propping up Al (Well....except Prince :P )

I just think it's unfair. Because someone's an actor/actress they suddenly have much more important things to say than musicians? It's just always seemed unfairly biased to me, just because a musical guest can put out an example of their music while on a talk show, they don't get even 5 minutes of interview time? Just something that's always bugged me.

And Dingo, trust me, I have nothing against either Cruz or Stamos. Their interviews will certainly be entertaining..I don't think I'm even going to MIND sitting through the rest of the show...Oh, former Uncle Jessie...:inlove:

I don't have anything against Jay, and I realize how these shows work. I was just hoping Al would get to talk. It really doesn't bother me very much. Al still gets to perform, which is going to be awesome. Nobody should take this as some sort of dis against Al. Musical guests on The Tonight Show are rarely interviewed, even the ones who go triple platinum, so Al's not being treated badly or anything.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Ok, where in this thread was it mentioned that Al for sure will not get to talk to Jay, or are you all assuming he won't, because he's a musical guest?
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

We know because of the format of The Tonight Show. Jay usually has 3 guests. He interviews 2, and the other is a musical guest. Jay has 2 other guests that night, which means Al will only be performing, unless Jay decides to alter his format for some reason.

Oh, ok. I suppose you're right. He didn't really talk to Ben Folds, either, but at least he shook his hand and said "Nice job", and said something nice to Al. Maybe Al will at least get a "That was great" or something like that. Hey, at least he's gonna be on, right?

Yeah, at least he's gonna be on...

It's just that - those other guests are not nearly as interesting, amusing, smart or talented as Al - that's all I'm sayin'...
Hoping the Al goodness never ends...

I certainly hope so...After this performance, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone went crazy..it's going to be difficult for Al, but I know he can pull it off!! :Y

Well, of course they're not! But, still, Al is excited about this, so we should be happy, too.

Yeah, I'm not really surprised Al won't be interviewed. I was really doubting it would happen. I've been watching the Tonight Show for a while and I have no recollection of a musical guest being interviewed beforehand.

I think it's nice the way it is because the interviews do last for a while and aren't cut short and you get a whole song for a performance.

I can't wait for the performance!
