I'm honestly baffled by this. Atlantic Records, you still think it's too early in James Blunt's momentous music career?

From the way they phrased it, it sounds like James Blunt turned it down this time, not the label (which makes no sense, since he liked it back in 2006)

I have to think either Blunt or Atlantic may just be screwing with Al at this point.

Or it could be they pulled a Gaga and never even asked him but just said he said no.

That's a shame. Since all the songs / albums are being remastered and released in the best quality, it would be cool if Al released a master-quality copy of the song once Squeeze Box was released. Have the song for download in FLAC, WAV, or such where it's the highest quality and basically an uncompressed, CD quality copy. Does anyone get what I'm trying to explain? I really should get some sleep before I post.

I know it's easy to criticize James Blunt and Atlantic Records for this, but I totally understand where they're coming from. Why would they want to get royalties for doing no work whatsoever and jeopardize James Blunt's thriving music career by burying a 10-year-old parody on the bonus disc of a box set of music that will only be purchased by fans who have already heard it?

It's a shame, but I do agree with Yankopunk in re-releasing Your Pitiful, in FLAC or *.wav format for those who want an uncompressed, or lossless quality.

I am still very curious about the official rarities compilation, myself. While I know we won't be getting any remastered versions of his home demos or songs like Pac-Man, I am hoping that we get some of the older songs, like Polka Patterns since there doesn't seem to be any high quality audio of it in circulation. It's pretty possible that we'll get things like Spy Hard and that one he did with Kate Winslet in 2005.

Do you really know this? I wouldn't be so certain. Pac-Man was on a Dr. Demento Basement Tape once upon a time, so it's certainly a possibility. Meanwhile "Polka Patterns" is a song written for (and by) a TV show, the rights to which lie either with the network or production company, but certainly not with Al.

A piece of new artwork has been added to the news item page on the mothership that announces this. Could this be the cover to the "rarities" disk?

Wow, nice catch. I am guessing that's the main artwork for the box set. Looks cool!
