*eyes widen at Wiggles being mentioned here* This is an Al forum, I try to escape the Wiggles. The only props I really give toward that show is that one of the guys plays the accordion.
I only know this because my nephew loves that show.

Heehee. "Escape the Wiggles" might be a good name for a band. In their defense, they do a nice cover of "Hoop-Dee-Doo" by that other Mr. Yankovic.

Anyway... edging back towards the "real" topic...
The very first time I met Al was at ALCON '98, when, after 14 years of pining over the man and imagining how I'd sum up over a decade of devotion into a couple eloquent and heartfelt sentences if I ever met him in person, blurted out that I liked his socks. I think that was literally all I said. Spent the next hour or so smacking myself in the forehead and muttering, "Stupid!! Gaaahhh! Stupid!"
Later that evening, after I figured he'd headed for the airport and caught the red-eye back home, I stepped into the hallway and he's standing there surrounded by other adoring fans. Woohoo! Somebody hands me their camera & I snap a photo of them and Al. Then what do I do?? Slink back into the convention room. Gaaahhh! Stupid!
Finally, after bemoaning my cowardice to a couple of complete strangers (who turned out to be Mr. & Mrs. Poohbear... don't know if they hang out in this forum or not) anyway they shove me back into the hallway and say "Go! Now!"
So what comes out of my mouth this time? "Can I please hug you before I lose my nerve again??" (If I wasn't so thrilled to be in his presence, I'd have been wishing for a trapdoor to appear beneath me at that point.) He smiled sweetly and said, "Aww, sure!" and I got the hug I'd waited for since 1984.

Then I went back into the main convention room, ran into Bermuda and blurted out, "Omigosh I can't think straight I just hugged Al!"
So that's, like, 3 or 4 embarrassing moments for the price of one!

I haven't embarrassed myself in front of all the band.
Though, sadly, I was too hyped up at one moment, I mispronounced Rubén's name right to him. I feel so bad for doing that.
Another time with the many times running into Bermuda at AlCon, I had found him in the hallway and got the nerve to go talk to him. I gave him his present (a hawaiian lei), someone came up, took a picture and said, "Look! Bermuda got leid!"
