Does anyone know if the DVD has sold well? After all the campaigns, did the fans then really buy it when it finally came?

Well I bought 2 (one since autographed)for my collection & one for the family to ruin - I mean play to death) We also all signed the UHF petition & bought 3 copies of it when it finally came out, one for a friend, the autographed one for the collection & the family use one.

Most of us put our money up when we can.

Is there anywhere on internet you can check stuff like that, for dvd:s, albums, etc ? i mean how much they sold?

I remember myself showing off in front of Americans, holdin' the DVD in my hands and sayin' "I'm the only one in Russia who owns the entire 3-DVD box-set of The Weird Al Show!" (I always say the full name of the miracle) and my American friends like "We think you're the ONLY one at all who owns it."

Hey people! I loved The Weird Al Show, who didn't? hehe.. anyway, of all the episodes, what was memorable to you? (made you crack up)

Since I started this thread I guess i'd better start it off! I loved the episodes with Fred Huggins, Baby Boolie and Papa Boolie.. lol, always managed to make me laugh :biggrin:

Of them all, my favorite is probaly The Obligatory Holiday Episode. For many reasons. First off, The Amazing Jonathan. Hilarious. Plus, I think it was the one with Fred Huggins getting carted off to the Asylum. Just him looking at Papa Boolie like "Help me Papa Boolie. They're hurting my little wristy." Hilarious.

I agree, he made the show. I think I love the last episode, especially with the commentary. Its really late for them and you get to see Al, in the middle of the night, ranting on about his show. It was just hilarious, especially when they are talking about Bobby. "Hey Al, why wasn't I invited to the holiday party?"

But that episode was also quite depressing, because you then know its the end. When the commentary ends, or just the plain episode, I felt this pang of realization that it was the end. The show was over, and it wasn't being brought back. Kinda depressing with such a good show with great expectations.

Man, do I think about things too much.

I agree with the commentary on the last episode. It was hilarious, and yet somewhat kinda bitter.

And I agree with what they were saying about the network in most of the commentaries as well. They allowed certain things that shouldn't have been, but then they'd send 19 notes about something else. And they didnt' have to reiterate the moral of the show. People aren't morons.

I was one of the very few people who taped every single episode of "The Weird Al Show" way back in 97 when it first aired (I still have two original TV spots - I put one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaHmwcFFKcU and the other is coming to YouTube soon - I wish Al had called me, they could've gotten on the DVD!). So by the time the DVD came out I'd already watched them all dozens of times, but the commentaries were an incredible revelation. I just about laughed my head off at the idea of a different Bobby every week, and the phrase "Hootie and the Blowfish performing in a huge vat of yogurt" will always make me smile in my darkest hours.

I was also VERY impressed by the packaging. I was fully expecting a cheaply-thrown-together two-disc set with static menus, but the way Shout! Factory put it together, you'd think the show was a beloved, ubiquitous cultural icon that had been rerun for decades, not the flop experiment that it unfortunately was. To quote a review I once read of the "Freaks & Geeks" DVD set, "the worst thing about it is the fact that there'll only be one."

I was disappointed then, and I'm disappointed now, that it didn't come back for a second season. I remember Al saying on his website at the time that they were hoping to re-sell the show to another network (a la "The Critic") and that the first season was really just a trial run. It never happened, but he was right - it needed a second season to truly become GREAT. They would have gotten better guest stars (it's easier to attract talent when you already have episodes to show them) for one, and they might have even been able to make the educational objectives work for them instead of against.

So as long as we're all being nostalgic...what's everyone's favorite part of that show? Favorite character? Favorite episode? Favorite "Channel Hopping"/fake ad bit? Favorite dialogue exchange? Here's mine...

Favorite character: DUH (check the handle)

Favorite episode: "The Competition" - the educational message didn't even feel tacked on!

Favorite bit: Probably the cold remedy commercial with the flying monkeys.

In my opinion I'd like to see the show revived, but not as a kids show. Maybe on Adult Swim. They could show the first season, then have a new season. And since it'd be later, they could get away with more things than CBS would allow at 6:00 AM. Not that AL would ever really go too far with raunchy type stuff, but still. He does have a twisted sense of humor, after all.
