When you hear Girls Just Want To Have Lunch, it doesn't matter if you heard the original or know anything about it, but Perform This Way is based on the original artists, giving the jokes a sort of "shelf life". Other than just poking fun at Madonna Lady Gaga, there is no "interpretation" for the song that makes sense.

EDIT: Well, I guess the song makes sense and can be "interpreted" in a few different ways now, but it will become irrelevant when the pop music climate changes.

I don't think so... I don't think that anything Al has ever done is irrelevant now...

Two words: "Buckingham Blues."

How is the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana not relevant? That'd be like saying Lorena Bobbit jokes haven't made sense since the early Nineties and that those two songs are so out of date as to be completely pointless! Jesus, Anth, you're so stupid sometimes.

I highly doubt that this new generation of Al fans will ever fully understand "Blues" or "News", but they'll probably love "Perform This Way"

Well, of course, but... That's because they know what Lady Gaga is.

Much in the same way people liked Blues and news because they made sense at the time.

Ok, first off, I don't even know where you get off comparing Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Lorena Bobbit. Lorena Bobbit is an international superstar who captured the world's attention and hearts with her compelling tale. But everyone knows that there's an exact moment you can pinpoint to where it was no longer appropriate to find "Buckingham Blues" funny anymore: the day Prince William was born.

I think that the Gaga Saga and the Internet Leaks both had a say in it. The Gaga Saga basically made Perform This Way a 6th Internet Leak due to its forced digital release. The Internet Leaks with PTW, half the album literally was released for digital download. And that sucked.

The song was definitely rushed. I doubt he had time to proof the lyrics the same way he would had he not been forced to cancel his family vacation. Something tells me he got stressed about it and didn't get into a groove. White and Nerdy was probably much more relaxed.

That being said, several million views is still a success in my book.
