It seems to me, from reading the article, as if they were looking for more of a stand-up comedian and Al's name just kinda got thrown into the mix.

I don't know how much it costs to book Al, but it seems as if he's stopped doing one-shot concerts as he used to between tours, so perhaps it has just become too costly to put on a full-length concert as a one-time thing? Certainly getting all the costumes and equipment together and ready alone would be a hassle for a single show on the spot.

Well, if nothing else, if they do book Al he could always do his "one man, one accordion, one karaoke track" set that he did here and there a year ago or so.

It's hard to know. I don't really expect that Al will be playing since the article mentions there seems to be some haggling over price. I can't imagine Al would haggle much, since he probably wouldn't charge more than it costs him to appear with a little left over to make it worth his being away from his family. I doubt if there's much wiggle room in the price.

I'd have to agree, especially since when they're negotiating for a price Al's booker has to factor in the money that goes not only to Al, but also the band and crew and roadies and hangers-on, etc., and no doubt there's only so much that can be haggled for a lot of them...probably not even enough to warrant mentioning it as an update worthy of a news article.

However, Al used to do a stage show with just one other guy. It'd be kinda cool to see an old school type Al show. I wonder what Joel Miller is doing that weekend...

I just skimmed the article, so I don't really know when the announcement is being made which comedian will appear. Since Jon doesn't always put this kind of performance on the webpage, we may have to get confirmation on our own.

I think Oct. 14 is the concert date. Not the announcement date. Unless I read it wrong.

I just found this page with an article in it from 1980, not sure if anyone else has seen it. It says that Al was supposed to perform a farewell concert at Cal Poly before he graduated, but it got rained out.

Good article and picture, though.

Oh yeah, Yahoo! Image Search has a lot more different results if you search for "weird al" than Google, that's how I found this.

Also, I remember a while back there was a debate on whether the picture of Al in front of the fence that says "DO NOT FEED" was Photoshopped to hav ehim standing there. Well, I think he was really posing there because there's another picture on this site of him (I presume) standing against the same fence in the "Fat" costume. Hmmmm....
