Well, some venues have more strict policies than others.

Stanhope nearly strip searched people for them.

On the other hand, I have also had my fair share of help from the "camera fairies"

...In Philly, they were searching bags, and I was prepared to have to take my camera back (at the time, I was packing a Canon T-50 with a 200 mm zoom. Not exactly a stealth machine) and they were making people take cameras out. And they searched the bag of the person in front of me, and the one after me...and did not ask me to open mine AT ALL.

...At the first CT PH show (I forget the venue offhand) the guy looked in my bag, commented on how my camera "looked professional" and asked me to promise not to take pictures, yet allowed the camera in.

...and there was that show at the high school in south Jersey on RWS where Adrian and I had nearly identical cameras with gigantic zoom lenses that we happily used all show, and then at the very end of the show, as we both stood to fire off a couple final pix, the security guy walked past me (I saw him in my viewfinder) and my giant camera to chastize Adrian for taking photos. We have still not figured THAT one out.

There are plenty of venues that will say no pix, but I usually try anyway. Most don't care, but I always have to be aware they *might* care and be prepared to set the thing down.

Yeah, I got pulled out of my seat at Stanhope and had to beg and plead with them to not pull out my film... used the ol' "but I have family photos on this roll too!" excuse. Plus I showed them my backstage pass and was like, "I really want to have my camera for when I go back." So I negotiated with them and we agreed that they would hold my camera battery until after the show had ended. That's probably about as much as I could have hoped for from them.

All I remember is that it was in Wallingford, CT, and the place looked like a barn. And there was nowhere to eat around the venue besides a place called Mendy's... which reminded me of the McDonalds/McDowells joke in Coming To America. I don't remember having any problems at that show though.

Wow, this happened six years ago I think, and just came up twice here in the past day or two. Dumb high school security.

I remember that, too. Didn't we get sort of lost on the way back to the parking lot? I seem to remember walking around for a LONG time.

That's like saying water is "sort of wet."

:D HAhah

It's happened more than once where a security guard has come up behind me or tapped me on the shoulder and I was so startled I literally threw the camera down the row and under seats in front of me. I tend to get a little over-excited sometimes, especially at Al shows.

My little digital doesn't take decent photos in concert venues, so maybe I'll invest in a better camera for the next tour. And I'll have to make sure to get a neck strap for it.

I'm so excited for the new tour season! WOWAY name tags will be a must. I didn't get to meet many WOWAYers at Virgin (okay, well, one ((Hi Vikki! :w)) ), so maybe concerts will be better. It would be so nice to meet more fellow CA Al-fans, as I usually feel like the only one in the tri-county area. It's lonely out there sometimes for an Al-fan. :( But reading this board and seeing how many are much nearer than I thought makes me feel better. :)

So...he thought you were just gonna let the battery and memory go to waste?

Whenever I go to shows, even if on the website and such, it says no photography, I bring my camera anyway. Usually security guards I've dealt with don't care long as you don't use flash.

The most that's ever happened to me was at Kansas City. They looked in my bag and didn't see my camera at the bottom of the bag that was hidden by the other stuff. I had my camera out and one security guard said I couldn't use it, but had to use the venue's diposable camera. I had a disgusted look on my face and she said she personally didn't care if I used mine long as I didn't use flash, but she couldn't say the same for the other security guards.

And throughout the entire night, in front row, 2 feet away from one security guard and was never bothered about my camera.

The thing that makes me mad about some of these venues and their camera policies is when they tell you that no cameras are allowed, and then they change their minds at the last minute. That happened to me at the Akron show. I called the day before, and they told me no cameras allowed. I went to the show, and plenty of people had cameras, but I left mine at home.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

I emailed Jim West (via Myspace) and asked when the US tour would start - he said late May. Is this news or am I just out of the loop? :F

It's news to me! Thanks for telling us!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Yeah! I'm not out of the loop! (well I am because I spend more time watching Dora and Veggietales than any adult should, but that's OK!)... :P

I think that since it's getting closer to concert time, we should start doing guesses at setlist. This one includes a lot of what CatraDtehm and weirdojace already mentioned, so don't expect too much originality.

Angry White Boy Polka - Again, gone in favour of Polkarama!

Trapped In The Drive-Thru Part 1 - It's such a big hit, how is it possible to not include it?

Party At The Leper Colony - I'll Sue Ya, but if Al can't pull off the yelling, then Virus Alert.

Your Horoscope For Today - As they both said, this seems to be the "Perform an original we missed on the last tour spot. I'll say Hardware Store, but if the bridge is unperformable, then Why Does This Always Happen To Me.

A Complicated Song - Replaced by Confessions Part III (although Canadian Idiot and Do I Creep You out seem to be gaining popularity too).

Melanie - Not returning. Replaced by an Al original (I'd like to see You Make Me or UHF).

One More Minute - Not going anywhere.

Dog Eat Dog - Replaced. Perhaps by This Is The Life.

It's All About The Pentiums - Replaced (hopefully) by You're Pitiful.

Trapped In The Drive-Thru Part 2

Wanna B Ur Lovr - Replaced by as Chris said Close But No Cigar

Trash Day - Replaced by either Canadian Idiot or Do I Creep You Out.

Smells Like Nirvana, and Amish Paradise - Probably staying, although I can see the order of them changing.

Couch Potato - Do I have to say it? Fine, replaced by White & Nerdy.

Trapped In The Drive-Thru Part 3.

Fat - Staying. Period.

The Saga Begins - I don't know. I'm not too partial to this one. Perhaps bumped out by something from PH.

Yoda - Not going anywhere.
