No. "You sir, are and idiot" is a joke. It's not a good one, but I spelled it like that on purpose.

All of this is missing the larger point which is that JCM has no appreciation for the fine arts.

ok. well, it might be okay to just say hi and ask for an autograph or picture when he isn't busy, but trying to carry the interaction on for more than a minute or two might be pushing that rude meter to the high end since he did go out to do his own thing. but i guess if he really doesn't want anyone to bother him, i doubt he would've posted anything about where he'd be for the day anyway. so i guess in the case of him saying where he is, then it might be okay and not really rude to say hi and all.
i personally wouldn't say more than "hi... um... i'm a fan and was hoping to take a picture with you, is that alright?" haha but that's just shy me.

If I saw Al at Starbucks, a grocery store, etc. I would like to think that I'd be courteous enough to just politely walk up to him, tell him how big a fan I am, and be on my way.

But more likely, I would be too nervous to do anything but drop my jaw and loudly whisper to a stranger "Holy schnikes, that's Weird Al!!!!!"

I recall getting extremely "heady" after meeting Steve Jay (at the Evergreen State fair show in WA last year), I could only imagine what would happen if I met Al.

Okay, here's my question: if you happened to run into Al at something like Jon's example (Al tweets he'll be at the museum, and you see him there), would you have the strength of character to just say "Hi Al! Love your music!" or some such, and NOT ask for a photo or an autograph? I don't believe he ever refuses those requests if it's at all possible to say "yes," but to me, the photos and autographs definitely seem like part of the Business of Being Weird Al, while a simple greeting, not so much. What do you all think?

I disagree. I think that part of The Business of Being Weird Al does include the photo ops and autographs of course, but another part is chatting up us hardcore fans for a few minutes. None of us would keep him waiting for more than a few minutes, especially if he was with his family, but I think if I saw him at the museum or any other situation I would probably say hi for a minute or two. As long as it didn't get to the point where it was taking away from his family time, I think that would be appropriate. After all, chatting for a minute takes no longer than posing for a photo and signing an autograph.

If I saw Al at a museum, I would absolutely say "hi" maybe even get a hug, but autograph/photo requests I can save for post-concert meet n greets.
