Were there any other set list changes aside from Headline News and Why Does This Always Happen To Me/Bob?

Yeah, I'm running a little late with my recap (What else is new? :P)

I took the bus and train in again. Jackie picked me up at the train station. Then we met Adrian and Anne, flipped a coin, and went to dinner at T.G.I.F.'s.

We had great seats! Surprisingly the theater was only about half full though. He usually sells out two shows here. Lots of empty seats up in the nosebleeds. (Nosebleeds = anywhere past row J or so. :P) Maybe people were using their GPS to get there and went to the big empty grass lawn area instead. Or they couldn't find the venue because it keeps changing its name every 30 seconds.

The stage didn't rotate as much, or as fast, as it usually does. So I kind of felt bad for some sections who saw more than their even share of backs of heads. It looked like the best area to be in was probably somewhere between section A & H. We did get a good variety with CI, YP, CPIII, "Fat," and mid-end of "Albuquerque" performed to us though.

The woman in the front row who got the WBUL treatment was so embarrassed it was funny to watch. She kept laughing and hiding her face behind her hands. Ruben fake passed out on the floor during the TITDT radio solo. I was disappointed the stage didn't rotate during TSB. I counted 10 stormtroopers. So add the band, and occasionally the stage manager, that's 15-16 people and equipment crammed onto their tiny little stage. Al singled one very young girl sitting in the front row out to sing "Yoda." She did a great job and got a huge applause from the audience and a "Not bad" from Al. At the end of SLN, Al ran into the audience and collapsed in the aisle. I counted 18 donuts in "Albuquerque" and Al told Jim to stop playing during the solo.

The after show line-up at the buses was short. We were right behind weird_el and Rachael, and right in front of Alison. They corralled us in, then Al came out and did autographs and pictures by flashlight standing over the metal barricades. I never saw that setup before. As stated by Jackie, he knew we were in Atlantic City the previous night. I asked him how the family was and he said he'd see Suzanne and Nina tomorrow (today in Baltimore).

Jackie, Adrian, Anne and I did our traditional goofing off until the bus left. The bus did one big donut around the parking lot, almost hitting Jackie's car and left. Kind of good we waited around, because Rachael's friend's car wouldn't start. Jackie had jumper cables, but we couldn't get enough juice to the battery from Jackie's car to get it started. Luckily a kind guy from the venue saw the commotion and was able to get there car started using his battery and Jackie's jumper cables.

Then, on the ride home, every road in Long Island had construction on it, so it took way too long to get home.

Adrian, love your picture with Al! That's awesome! My computer is still acting up, so I don't know when I'll be able to finish looking at your pics, but what I've seen so far looks great.

Dave, thanks for the review. Good to hear Al is meeting up with Suzanne and Nina today.

:D
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

damn the show was awesome. He did some stuff that he didnt do last year, so it made it even better such as the Storm Troopers being on stage, Why Does This Always Happen to Me, and some of the lines in Albuquerque. Al collapsed RIGHT NEXT TO ME during SLN!!! It Was amazing. Still missing Headline News from the medley, got some great pics though

Here's my comments:

When we got there, there was no baggage check, so we were able to have water and snacks and I didn’t even bring my “non-pointed umbrella” (which according to the venue seems to be the only thing you are allowed to bring).

Hubby and I were sitting opposite of where the guys went in and out, guess it would be considered back stage, (section D) kind of a quiet section.

This was my third show for the SOL tour would like there to have been more, but alas we have interferences like jobs and bills to pay, stupid life!!!! :P

I am not sure how I feel about the venue, maybe would have felt differently if we were closer to the front of the stage, but I miss the screens being visible right behind the band (at least where we were sitting , we had to watch the left or right side for the screen). Of course, there was a limitation to exploding streamers and there were no exploding yanko bucks. There was no live camera shots of Al in the audience during WBUL, so missed seeing the lady get shrieked at, at the end, since he was probably laying on the floor, I think Bermuda and the amps were hiding him. It’s always amusing to see people’s reactions to Al’s insanity.

They didn’t allow cameras although there were some rebels flashing cameras in the audience. I didn’t see tight security, like at the Beacon, those guys watch over that place like a flock of hawks. Other than rebellious shutterbugs, the crowd was extremely tame, far as I could see … maybe a bit too tame.

The show was great as usual. No complaints there at all. I think there were quite a few new pastries mentioned in the Donut shop in Albequerque … and I think he covered almost every berry in existence, except for Poke berry. Something seemed different about the medley and I can’t quite put my finger on it, nothing bad, just different.

The best thing about this venue was that they did let us line up and meet Al, even if it was brief and quick and not enough time to say more than a sentence. My husband got Al’s first album signed (has had it for 25 years – finally got it signed). Al, if you are peeking in here, Thanks a lot. I got a yanko buck from last year signed …and no I WILL NOT sell it on EBAY.

As an after thought, we went back to see if we could join the end of the line again and get our picture taken together with Al, but the people on the line had been instructed to say they were the last. That was O.K. with us, we just wanted to try, but didn’t want to be a bother to Al or the staff.

So, of the three I have been to, for meeting Al, Westbury rates number 1, Beacon in NYC rates number 2 (we should have just been more patient) and Garden State Arts Center (NJ) rates a very bad number I can’t think of, because we couldn’t even get near the buses. As far as show goes, Garden State Arts Center rates number 1, both for stage set up, space for standing by the stage and audience enthusiasm without obnoxious behavior. Beacon rates number 2 for space for standing, audience enthusiasm (but had obnoxious people), too tight security (poking at people about pictures and just being in the way visually), and not letting us have any of our own food or drinks (because they want to sell their over priced stuff). Westbury rates number 3 for space for standing or even being allowed to stand, audience enthusiasm (it was there, but not as great as at the Arts Center, here in NJ), but the security wasn’t that visible or annoying.

Yes, as Dave mentioned, most of the exits that we needed to get home to NJ easily were blocked off, so we had to loop around a bit too.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
